More snow Monday?

Shellfell, we have had some of our biggest CT snow storms in March…and one memorable huge storm in Aptil.

I’m just glad it’s not snowing today!

I. Cannot. Believe. The. Bleeping. Snowplow. Just. Blocked. Us. In. Again.

So far, we got off easy, no real snow yet. My problem is more with rain. Snow turned into rain before the temperature dropped to teens. Uncleared slush turned into solid block of ice. My neighbor’s visitors are asking if they can park their cars in my driveway. Her driveway is like a skating rink.

Shellfell- Remember the April Fool’s Day blizzard? That one dumped well over 2 feet on Boston in 1997.

My daughter went to Boston (from Texas) for Admitted Students’ Day at Boston College. She got there on Saturday evening (she had a scholarship interview for another college on Saturday morning at home and couldn’t leave earlier). All the admitted student activities activities were on Sunday, and her plan was to fly back on Monday at noon. Well, needless to say, that didn’t happen! She finally left Boston today at 9:50 (plane left 30 mins late, probably being de-iced). I’m curious to hear what she thought of all that snow and frigid weather and whether it will have an impact on her final choice!

I remember! I received a phone call at 6:00 am to tell me my school was closed. But I could look out the window and see the sun was shining and there was no precipitation. I thought my colleague was playing an April Fool’s trick on me. But no, just 15 miles east, there was a blizzard! I actually drove there just to see it, because I couldn’t believe it. On my drive, I crossed the snow line. It went from bare ground to 6", and then soon to 12". Unbelievable!

This was in SE PA.

The big difference between these snowfalls, and ones in March and April is that we can safely assume the snow in March and April will start to melt off fairly quickly as it’s uncommon to have weeks on end with temps below freezing. The stuff we have now… it’s not going to significantly melt for quite a while yet. It’s here for a while.

I know there’s snow in March, and even April. It’s a psychological thing. To me, when it snows in March, the snow tends to melt faster because temps tend to be higher. When the snow doesn’t stick around as long, I can deal with it better. Therefore, I look forward to March 1st.

HAHAHA!!! Cross-posted with @shellfell!

I’m there with you. There’s something really depressing about these huge banks of snow that aren’t going to go anywhere for months. When the snow pack is this deep this early the snow doesn’t really go away, it just compacts as the stuff on top melts a bit then refreezes as it travels through the feet of stuff still on the ground.

On of the things I’ve always loved about my kids’ private school vacation schedule, with two weeks off in March, is that you leave in winter and arrive home in spring. Even if there is more snow you know it’ll melt within a couple of weeks.

One year I lost my house keys while shoveling in, I think, February. We were going away over spring break, and just before we left I spent quite some time going through the last few piles of snow looking for them. Finally found them next to the driveway. I sure didn’t want them to emerge while we were away!
