More wedding wear question-hose?

I know there was some discussion about summer weddings and pantyhose in the past but looking for advice for a winter wedding. The wedding is around Christmas so will be chilly. I just found a really nice pair of peek toe sling backs. The heel isn’t too high but high enough to be dressy and they are comfortable. I can get them in silver or black (I might buy both!)
and I plan on wearing a sleeveless navy blue dress with silver accents. Summertime, I would go with bare legs, but hesitant to do so in the winter. I googled and saw that there are nylons that you can wear with a peek toe shoe that have the toe cut out. Thoughts?

Make sure if you are going to wear nylons that you try them on with the shoes, Slingbacks have a tendency to slide off the heel with nylons.

While I am OK with hose, the toeless hose makes me pause. I suppose it could work if the front of the shoe is sold… If the shoe looks more like a strappy sandal, the toe opening could look a little awkward.

2 - sorry, "solid" not "sold." Too late to edit! :) yes, the slingback might slip off nylons easier than off bare legs. The more I think about it... Your outfit sounds summer-y (sleeveless dress, peep-toe slingbacks...), so I would forego hose altogether, because it not going to make things much warmer for you, but might turn into a hassle.

I’m with you Bunsen…a sleeveless dress with peep-toe singbacks, why worry about legs being bare with bare arms.

These are the shoes if it helps any. http://www.zappos.com/nine-west-cinema9-natural-leather?ef_id=VVkkNQAABdkYvwJz:20151005224519:s

Like the shoes! Treat your legs to a nice pedi-spa and go hose-less. Bring a long wrap, and if your legs would feel cold while you are sitting, cover your knees with the ends of the wrap.

(Bwaaaa… Typos galore in my posts today!)

Agree. Those shoes are ageless. Enjoy

I have those shoes! They are very comfortable but I’m another vote for no hose.

I vote NO on hose. I am quite biased because I hate pantyhose with a passion, but if the dress is full-length your legs won’t be cold anyway.

Go with your own comfort zone. If you will be more comfortable wearing hose, as I sometimes am in winter months, wear hose. I really don’t think a nice sheer pair of hose is a major faux pas in today’s world.

I’d wear sandal-foot stockings myself.

When did hose become a no-no? I’ve been wearing pants for decades now, with no need for pantyhose but on the off chance that I want to wear a dress to an occasion – I have to go bare legged or its a fashion faux pas? I am way too pale to want my white legs sticking out …

cnp55, don’t worry. I wear it all the timr. Pantyhose today is not your grandma’s pantyhose! Silky, almost invisible, feels-like-second-skin… Donna Karan, Wolford, and Falke are still in business selling pantyhose. I just would not wear it with sandals or peep-toe shoes or with any footwear if the temp. is over 75 degrees.

I think pale, goosebump-covered legs sticking out of dark boots (on a grey, rainy evening in Seattle!) is a much worse idea than wearing Wolford skin-toned hose with pumps.

These are what the silver ones look like. Closed toe pumps are always very uncomfortable for me. I think I am going to buy them and try out the different options for my legs beforehand. https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/236x/15/33/6d/15336d674cc72bc3f4c0556682226cfc.jpg

Very cute shoes. To me, if your arms are bare your legs might as well be. Personally, I don’t like either unless it is summer. Unfortunately, it seems as if people’s expectations along those lines have been molded by red carpet photos of people who live in California. A person with bare legs and arms in Maine in February is pretty much going to look like an idiot.

Yes, great shoes. I think you can rock the dance floor on NYE in them!

Agree with you, Consolation. Never got the bare legs/boots thing - if it is cold enough to wear boots, it is cold enough to wear long sleeves… and in that case, tights-covered knees definitely look better than bare, bluish, goosebump-covered knees.

Whenever I go someplace really cold in the winter (at least in the US and Canada), I always bring outfits designed around warm, toasty sweaters, but then I end up roasting because the heater is always cranked up too high. I always wish I was wearing short sleeves and bare legs indoors in the sweltering heat.

^^^^AZ is just the opposite, 115 outside but you freeze inside because the AC is cranked up.

If I may ask a further “pantyhose” question without hijacking the thread, I am going to a wedding this weekend where the ceremony will be outdoors in weather which looks to be about 65 (at best) and sunny during the ceremony. We are then going into a tent with heaters, and the temp is supposed to drop into the 40’s by wedding reception’s conclusion. While I would like to get away without pantyhose, I think I might need to wear them because of the cool weather.

I bought a pair of Hanes Ultra Sheer size A/B, and they are just too big for my lower calves and ankles. I have pretty good legs because I work out regularly. Anyone know of a brand which would likely fit a smaller leg?
