My strongest assets academically are my GPA and Class Rank; ACTs could be improved, but my score is not too bad. Out of those 3, does anyone know which one UVa is really interested in?

GPA with respect to course rigor, but UVA considers everything in a “holistic” approach I believe

Hazel’s right. Your academic program and grades come first. GPA doesn’t tell the full story, of course.

what about class rank? is it only considered if the number of students is above 300?

If your school ranks, it will be reviewed along with all the other pieces of information in your file.

I’m not sure where the number 300 came from. Where are you getting your information?

ah i see, thank you. i actually got the number 300 from my guidance counselor, who, unfortunately, is known for giving incorrect information as such. He said certain schools only consider rank if the number of students is above 300; I was a little skeptical about his information, which is why i wanted to verify.

^ That actually makes sense. Super small sample sizes are not very useful. 300 does seem like a random value however. I’d personally start to consider class rank data at a bit less than 100 students (70ish?), giving more weight as the base increases.

Again - remember, rank only one piece of the puzzle. My HS class rank was 30-40% from a public school in NJ. UW GPA 3.6. I was admitted in 2008.
