Out of these schools, which is the most liberal, free thinking, less socially confining?
Choate
Andover
NMH
SPS
Thacher

I would say that Thacher and NMH are tied, because they attract different types of people, so it’s a different kind of free-thinking. For the west coast, Thacher is a pretty conforming school in it’s way of thinking, because that’s just how California is, but in the total scheme of boarding schools, it’s pretty non-conformist. And NMH is an east coast school, but is fairly similar to Thacher in that it does not go along with a lot of the ideas of a “normal” boarding school experience.

I found Andover to be liberal. It attracts a very diverse pool of applicants. Almost everyone was open to different viewpoints and participating in discussions about issues. CAMD (community and multicultural diversity) is very active on campus by getting speakers, planning events, and fostering discussion. A majority of people on campus are politically liberal. Andover also has no dress code if that’s important.

NMH hands down. Everyone seems different.

So, no one has mentioned Choate? Do you think a politically liberal girl from an alternative family would have a difficult time there?

Swiss Chard – re Choate – for graduation this past year, Carl Rove was slated as the speaker. The students protested – it made alot of news – and the administration was forced to withdraw his invitation, and invited Jeffrey Sachs instead…safe to say that among the students there is a strong representation of liberalism in the student body.

well, out of the schools i visited, Thacher was the most open minded and the most laid back.

i would say choate is very liberal…many differenr people repesented…but i’ll find out more when i ge there…

Of course, the actions of the students at Choate are opposite of “liberal”…

wat is that supposed to mean???

Are you basing it on recent events???
Not everyone is like that, I have tons of friends at Choate whom graduated this year and they all fit the meaning of “Liberal”.
Dont mess with the minds of freshies.
Dont let them mess with you BBallprep instead laugh at them for thinking they know so much about your school.
And if you guys are students or parents or whatever it doesn’t give you the right to toy with her.
Liddyb’s and Fun is Fun posts are just pure ignorance.
