If this thread doesn’t convince a generation of young people to elope, I don’t know what will. ;)

Deborah–I truly am not trying to goad anyone!
I really wanted merely to support Modadunn; I think she’s shown herself to be fairly well aware and able to make a joke. I’m so sorry you took my comment personally!

Cpt–full report totally promised!!! I’m sure the asylum will be willing to transcribe my rambling rants!

Truthfully, I’m starting to get pretty excited about it.

Somemom, that was a nasty situation. What a shame when people like your MIL act like they were little children on a kindergarten school yard. They’re the ones who make spectacles of themselves, and only make the people who witness such behavior side completely with the opposite side!

It never occurred to me that I would not be walked down the aisle by the worm. After all, I am his only parent, The one who drove him places, gave late night pep talks, researched his camps, paid for everything, etc. I was the one who figured out how to visit 3 campuses after being admitted. I cannot fathom a more memorable moment than giving him to another woman, whom he loves more than anything.

I’ve seen the estranged divorced dad, who, while an MD/PhD, never gave a cent, sit with his latest wife and parents in front row, crying crocodile tears. Yet this same man came to my rescue when my mom got ill; spoke to her doctors, tried to correct her care (too late to correct the blunders). When I needed a CA lawyer, he got his younger brother, a CA native, to find me a good lawyer. People are so confusing. They mean well and yet, in some situations, act atrociously. I try to step back and take a broad view, realizing I just don’t have the knowledge to understand why some people behave the way they do in certain situations.

When you hire people to help you with specific tasks, they are there to take directions from you in order to get the work done as soon as possible so they could get paid and go home. They are not there to have philosophic discussion or have tea with you. More often than not, I would rather hire help who would do exactly what I want instead of having a deep philosophical discussion about why a chair needs to be here instead of there. Just because I tell my “hired help” what to do, it doesn’t mean I mistreat them. As a matter of fact, people like me probably have more respect for people’s time. Now, it is much harder to boss my H around.

I’d love to see some folks on this thread spend a mere six months doing hard physical labor full time and then see how many jokes they’d crack afterward about bossing people around who do that work.

Who is cracking jokes? We would say, “I boss my H around.” Do we really do that? I think most of us would ASK our H to do something, and say thank-you. I don’t think it would mean we have no respect for our H. I boss people around at work all day, but it doesn’t I am rude, I do it because it is my job. Do you hire 3-5 people to do work at your house and say “go do whatever you want?”

You can’t have it both ways. The logic is deteriorating.

There’s a lot of logic in the statement if one has my H :)

I’d much rather pay someone and get it done, instead of nagging 6 months to get a 5 minute job accomplished.

I live on a farm and we have livestock. H works in a factory. I know what physical work is and I respect it.

Hayden, DH & I were both relieved that the in laws were not well enough to travel when DD got married! And, as others have said, we know what not to do.

Deborah T - please explain what do you mean by having it both ways? The logic is you hire someone to do something then you need to tell that person what you want to get done. Is that bossing?

Srystress and Oldfort, my post #249 was in response to this.

There must be something I am not getting, but this has nothing to do with this thread, so I will stop.

I thought the subject could have been dropped a long time ago and even suggested that, but others insisted on carrying on with it and making barbed remarks in addition.

This post is getting out of control. I cannot even get the subject straight. Good luck everybody. I hope whoever is getting married (lost track of who by now) will have a better luck than this tread.

When is the wedding? I want to be sure to check back in around that time!

Jeez, I spend all day with little kids and then I have to come home to THIS?! lol.

Time-outs for everybody.

Sorry. Was that bossy?

Yes. But affectionately. ;)

Do you let them wear pink ribbons, EPTR? Who sits in the first row?
