Walking home, I just ordered this dress for my son’s wedding due to your recommendation! I didn’t even bother to measure - just ordered an 8 and hope it fits right… How funny, that there will be CC mums wearing the same dresses at weddings!
As long as your kids aren’t marrying each other, sounds like a good plan.
@anxiousmom - I’m flattered! I hope you like it as much as I do. A friend suggested I accessorize it with silver shoes and small bag. We’ll have to exchange photos! I did order it in two sizes since the shipping was the same price but didn’t even try on the larger size since it would have been too big.
Wonderful! I’m so glad you found something that’s pretty and fits well. Reviews of this dress are uniformly great! As much as I loved the royal blue dress we were all discussing earlier, I realized (after posting a few times!) that I couldn’t envision a wrap that would work with that dress.
Best wishes to you as the planning continues and the date draws nearer!
So glad you could find a petite dress that met your criteria, looks good, fits well, and makes you happy. Last year, I found such a difference in fit between regular and petite dresses. Some of the regular dresses required so much alteration. The dress I bought was a regular size, but fortunately only needed to be hemmed and taken up at the shoulders.
Actually, I think it would be hysterically funny if MOB and I ended up wearing the same dress! What a show of unity that would be! I love the idea…
Regarding Petite dresses. What is it with dress makers thinking we are all going to wear 4-inch heels? I am 5’ 4" and often end up in the petites, since they assume a “regular” person is 5’8" with 3-inch heels for formal dresses in regular sizes.
@anxiousmom I hear you. For dresses, I always need a petite size but for me it is because I’m somewhat high waisted, and have no real bust. If I get a regular size…it sis and bags from the waist up.
But for slacks, I need a regular, and even sometimes long leg…I have a 32 inch in seam.
I’m 5’4" tall…and this has always been an issue for me.
Also, it doesn’t help that sizes vary so much by the maker. I wish they would just put height and weight on the tags!
Me, too! I am high-waisted, except I really don’t have much of a waist at all. Isn’t a waist supposed to go in from your hips? ;-).
I think you will look lovely and be comfortable in November. And another vote for keeping the royal blue one. There will be warm weather events in the future!
I finally found a dress for my daughter’s wedding ( 10/14 ) It is made by JKara and I found it in the last place I looked. I was getting very frustrated with the whole process. I looked online, in boutiques, and finally found a dress in Boscov’s. They didn’t have my size so I tried on a larger on to get the idea and it actually looked good on me . I found many of the traditional MOB dresses either too sexy and clingy or too frumpy…not much in between. My daughter’s dress is a little less than traditional, so for me to have a very formal dress seemed silly. This dress is elegant and feminine , but won’t look too dressy. It is black with sequins and silver beading , should probably be tea length but a but longer on my 5’4" frame.
Why is it so difficult to find dresses with any kind of sleeve ?
I agree about the weird MOB/MOG dress choices. I’m happy with the one I got but since I think many MOB’s are in my age bracket, and probably my figure type, why are there not more flattering dresses? And the sizes seem to be for all much taller people. My poor Mom is 4’10" and will most likely wear a dress she had for her 50th wedding anniversary (ten years ago) because there just isn’t anything out there that will fit her and be comfortable. I get that you can hem a dress, but you can’t add fabric, but it seem there should be some choices for shorter skirts for actual petite people and smaller sizes for elderly women.
Yes, it would be nice if more dresses were available with sleeves. I get that it is harder to sew sleeves in clothing, but it isn’t THAT much harder and you can charge a bit more.
I don’t know what my poor mother is going to do. She is going to visit me next week and I would love to take her shopping but my area is pretty much a wasteland when it comes to shopping
Lje62, can you link a picture of your dress? Inquiring minds like to see!
BTW, I am in the wrong thread- I need to be in the MOB October Weddings. Isn’t October just next month?
@anxiousmom , I suspect that this dress might be a leftover from last year because I couldn’t find it on their website. Here is one that is similar. although the beading is silver and the dress is a bit longer…also, there is beading at the bottom of the dress too
Nice dress, lje62. :-).
Very pretty @lje62
I love that dress, lje62. I have a particular fondness for handkerchief hems. And it has a nice sleeve! So hard to find…
Nice dress @lje62! I agree about the hem. Looks like a fun dress!
On the recommendation of @anxiousmom , I ordered these shoes to go with my MOB dress. I’m not into heels and these looked like comfy and cute - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00TRAKZ0O/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I’m hoping they have some blue in them.
