I had a great Mother’s Day. S got all my nonprofit stuff organized (spent weeks doing it) and out of our house and now stored at my mom’s unoccupied home. It’s been cluttering our living room for years, literally. Looks worked better now!
H made pancakes and oatmeal for breakfast. S made cookies. I sewed cotton covid19 masks with fabric I have around.
He and D went to my SisIL’s house to wash & dry laundry (our dryer is broken and won’t be repaired until Thursday).
The kids brought home surprise takeout Greek food from a place we all love — it was great! We then drove to Waikiki and walked around.
All in all, a fun day my sister had my mom and they had a great day too.
Welp, it turned into the best MD ever. Talked for a while with S on the phone in the morning, which is always nice. In late afternoon, D asked us to stop by for an out door meeting, like we’ve been doing. After a while, GD all of a sudden came toddling straight at me. I looked up at D, who said, they’ve done fourteen days, and so have we, so she said, if I was okay with it, it was okay with her fpr me to pick her up.
The Mother’s Day Google Doodle was an interactive make a card for mom. My 26 year old daughter made me one just like she would have when she was a kid - using the same craft supplies - only virtually. So cute!
I think it may have been my best Mother’s Day ever. We played Rummikub, dominoes, and pool. The kids made dinner. The boys made me cards yesterday and my daughter (procrastinating due to being exhausted from final exams) made one for me last night that I found this morning. She got a little tipsy, so she wrote, “Sorry I got drunk on Mother’s Day.” Ha! She was pretty cute, actually. DH wrote me a poem, He made me go to the upstairs balcony that overlooks the living room and read it out loud to me while my daughter videoed him. I don’t know when/if all three kids will all be here on Mother’s Day again, so this was very special.
I can’t even remember the last time I was with both kids on Mother’s Day, maybe 2006 or maybe once while S1 was in grad school and S2 was home from college a few years later. How nice for you, @MaineLonghorn.
My day didn’t turn out as planned. FaceTime with both kids, their spouses and babies, so that was nice. Did my regular Sunday linens changes, because, well it was Sunday!
I had spent a couple of hours Saturday at mom’s with mask on to help show her the new iPhone we had gotten her; she previously had an android. I told her we would drop dinner off to her Sunday night and to select a restaurant. She loves Maggiano’s, so I placed an order for just her to be picked up at 6:00. We arrived for curbside pickup right at 6:00, to see at least 20 other cars there waiting; they had number slots and you were to call or text when you arrived. At 6:25 I flag down one of the wait staff that was delivering to cars and ask what was going on as when I texted, I received a reply 10 minutes later that said “Locked in” with no clue what that meant. The staff said she would check. at 6:35 my husband sees what he assumes is a manager type taking to the person in the next car; he had been waiting since 5:00 for his order! I ask this man what was going on, and when would I see my one lousy order of ravioli and a side salad? He mutter something about computer issues, but he would check. At 6:50, I have steam pouring out of my ears, so put on my mask and huff to the restaurant doors. Just as I hit the door, a staff came out and called my name, 55 minutes after my pick up time! Had this order been for me, I would have left by 6:20, but my mother was really looking forward to this, so we stayed.
Maggiano’s has been around a long time, doing catering and banquets; we actually had by daughter’s Bat Mitzvah party there 20 years ago. They were also opened for inside dining, but again, they know how to handle large orders, and if not, they never should have accepted so many to go orders. I sent off an email as soon as I got home to complain. Besides the wait, I think they kept the food under a warmer or something, as the salad was hot, and was missing ingredients. Mom said the ravioli and bread were delicious, but the salad she couldn’t eat. Not sure what I expect from the restaurant, but I hope I get a reply. My husband wanted to send a mailed letter, but I wanted it out ASAP. That all said, I still don’t have a charge on my credit card, even as pending. Maybe they decided not to charge people, or maybe their computer forgot to charge, or maybe they aren’t putting charges through until today.
So I was a bit grumpy last night, but better today. Hope everyone else enjoyed their day.
@snowball - Maggiano’s! That brings back memories. Your experience sounds like my son’s attempt to get breakfast at Portage Bay Cafe in Seattle. He’d ordered the day before for 10:00 am pickup. He said at least a dozen cars were in line when he arrived. After 15 minutes he went inside, where a lot of people were waiting. After half an hour, the person in front of him learned it would be another half hour and cancelled. So son did the same.
Apparently the restaurant not only did online and phone orders, but also were using five different delivery services. And didn’t put on any limits. So they were totally swamped. They told son they never had issues on regular weekends.
We ordered online from Snooze in San Diego for 10:00 am. I got a text at 10:03 that they were starting my order. About 20 minutes later I got a text that it was ready. Husband was there waiting to pick it up. I’m not sure if their order system had shut offs with capacity limits to help with control.
Mother’s Day was a test for take out and apparently a lot of restaurants failed.
A local Mexican restaurant posted in their Facebook page to be patient. They weren’t set up to be a fast food restaurant, they only have one phone line and the kitchen is small.
It’s really hard for a restaurant that is set up as a sit down place to transition to carry out only. They definitely appreciate your business but it’s difficult. And Mother’s Day is one of THE busiest day in the restaurant business.
Yesterday was a struggle for me. It was very cold and snowy here. Snowed all day. In May. I expect snow in February, March, even the beginning of April, May put me over the edge.
So no outside time, no exercise. First time I got no exercise in a month!
I love my kids, I love my mom. I called my mom, the kids called me. We also talked to my mil. It was nice but it took a fair part of the day. I had talked to my mom and mil recently and talked to them again but I was on the phone for hours.
We got takeout for dinner. I didn’t expect any cards because that would involve going to a store to buy a card and I’d like all my people to limit their exposure to going out.
I guess some days are stressful and I struggle.
But today, it’s still cold. But it stopped snowing, the sun is kinda shining. And it’s a new day!
I think restaurants with curb side pick up with utterly slammed yesterday. I saw two local restaurants post that they had their highest sales in their history yesterday - but they also acknowledged that that came at a bit of a cost to customer service and they were quite apologetic. I do not think curb side pick up is a picnic for restaurants. Packaging things up takes more time and manpower than putting food on a plate and walking it to a table. They need to also limit the staff in their kitchen.
That said I am not a restaurant chain lover but when in the Chicago area will make an exception for Maggianos!
For Mother’s Day my D and I made Lei Po’o (head leis) with everything from my yard. They were beautiful!!! I loaded a pic to my avatar. The little one is for a friend’s 1 yr old. Then she gave me a couple of Henna Tatoos for fun and baked yummy stuff.
We had a family over for Sunset (which was crummy last night) to sit at both ends of our front patio.
@coralbrook so pretty.
I had no expectations going into Mothers Day. My Youngest tried to organize her siblings, LOL in the fact that she doesn’t even live nearby. They declined and both said they would do their own thing.
I made a nice breakfast for me and my husband. It was a treat since we don’t normally have breakfast. All three texted me in the morning. I even got a nice text from my son in law. In the afternoon my son and his wife came by. We sat out on the driveway, DIL wore a mask. My older D came by with her puppy. We pulled out another beach chair. We enjoyed watching the puppy play with our 12 yr old dog. We live on acreage and have a big driveway. We were all able to keep plenty of distance between us. My D gave me a lovely dried flower bouquet along with a nice card. It was really nice being “together”.
My younger D had been invited to her sister in law for Mother’s Day. Her husband’s family is not really practicing social distancing. My D declined but they pressured her H to come. He went and stayed outdoors and tried to keep distance. Her in laws county has had few cases and most of them all live on a large compound and they don’t distance from each other.
