The first two seasons of Buffy the Vampire Slayer are a pretty brilliant send up of high school. Third season is college - it has good moments (the beer episode is my favorite.)

The Competition (l980) Richard Dreyfus and Amy Irving co-star, as they prepare for a crucial piano competition. Will romance interfere with the outcome? Lee Remick is their stern piano teacher!

Glory Days (2007) Set in 1966 at Texas Western college, based on true stories. Black and white basketball players defy racial stereotypes and learn to play with heart. Newly hired coach Don Haskins recruits players from distant cities to his rural Texas campus, eventually creating the first all-black starting line-up for a college basketball team at the NCAA national championship.

Fame (l980) Musical drama, set at the New York High School of Performing Arts, which trains actors and musical performers. They dance on taxicabs.

Music of the Heart (1999) Meryl Streep as a teacher training Harlem kids to play violin; with Angela Bassett as the principal. (Note: Streep learned to play violin for this film, after she committed to play the acting role. She’d assumed they’d digitize her fingers, but no…she had to learn the instrument, so practiced 6 hrs. daily between movie shoots.)

one on one with robbie benson–the pressures of big time athletics

Yet to be released: “Tenure”. Location filming at Bryn Mawr College last month. Will Farrell plays a Professor in competition for tenure against a female colleague—at romantic comedy, I think. D said the film crew was a pain in the @#$, and Will Ferrell was “full of himself”—LOL:rolleyes:

It’s Luke Wilson (brother of Owen Wilson) who plays the professor hoping to get tenured in the film shot at Bryn Mawr. My D and several of her friends were extras. She said it was pretty boring. Mostly they sat around and read.

My Gosh, how embarrassing. Of course, you’re right. I tend to get Luke Wilson and Will Farrel mixed up in my mind—God only knows why…:o

History Boys

a 2006 British film that takes place in the 80’s

It’s about a bunch of genius high school boys that are trying to get into Cambridge and Oxford. Touching and extremely entertaining.

Got a 63% rating on rotten tomatoes (not bad!)

It has the actors who play Vernon Dursley (Richard Griffiths) and Madame Maxine (Frances de la Tour) in Harry Potter, and a bunch of really cute looking brit guys :)

thanks for the great titles and the thumbnail descriptions. HS is quite ok to me, and it does nt have to be family movie night. Did I read right that IMdb has meta search capability (education, or college?)? even if so, I like personal favorites/recommendations, too -
