moving to nyc, too many questions!

Hey! I am Egyptian and I am planning to move to the states to get a BA in film. The reason why I decided to move is that I have corneal opacity in both eyes and the facilities for a disabled are not so much in here, living here has been so hard for me and I have been so dependent on my family which I don’t prefer. (I am 23)

I decided to live in nyc.cuz I have family there so I won’t feel lonely.and I also am familiar wit the city.

CUNY seem to be my only option as I will already be spending a lot on my medicines/ doctors. But I am not sure which college has the best hand-on program. I will be staying at my relatives’ for the first 3 or 4 months at Rego Park, Queens and I have no idea where I will live after that but I want somewhere near college that is not crazy expensive.
I was also wondering if I will be able to get health insurance that would cover some of my eye doctor appointments and medicines.
And do I have a work permit as an international student? (In case my vision got better later on)

Thanks!
Reham
(And sorry for the super long message)

I think that Queens might have some good, somewhat cheap apartments, but i’m not too sure about that.

CUNY Queens College has a reputation for producing a lot fo folks who have done well in entertainment. My sister had a friend who studied Media there and had to take several classes involving film work. Some of the TV/Film alumni from there include Jerry Seinfeld, Ray Romano, Fran Drescher, Adrian Brody, Jon Favreau (Iron Man director), Ben Younger (Boiler room director) to name a few. Overall the school has a good academic repuatation and is located in a nice, safe neighborhood.
