…in about a month. And as our kids wanted to give input…I kept asking and nada. So…does anyone have ideas? We can drive or fly. We can go to a large hotel (one kid works for a large company) But no room because of the timing. No New york because we are going there for a wedding one month later. We need room for 6 or 7. I prefer to keep it under $1000 per night because we need bathrooms for six.
Maui is our favorite. Only “problem”? We went to Maui last September. But…friend owns a condo in Oahu…but asI’m typing…Oahu does sound better and better.
Oahu has some awesome dining options. Try to avoid traffic and you’re golden! Nice that you have an inexpensive lodging option. More for you to enjoy in the trip!
If you have the time and opportunity, consider trying some of our community theater. It’s a bargain and has amazing talent. My favorite is Diamond Head Theater. Let me know if you need dining recs
Off the wall, but what about finding a short long weekend type cruise. Everyone could have their own room or double up with their own bath, eat together or separately, spend time together. Everyone can fly in and out of the point of departure and there would be no need for car rentals etc. If Mr. has never done it, it might be that one time unique experience. Princess Cruises has a few west coastal cruises from various locations to various locations and isn’t too much of a party barge with plenty of music and “stuff” to do while onboard. It might be a tad over your budget with 6 and I would not be someone who could do an “interior” cabin to try and keep it to a grand, but that’s pretty inclusive with the exception of any alcohol and tips and a great way for a group to be together and apart at the same time.
I’m surprising my H with a trip to Iceland for his 60th. Our best couple friend is joining us. He won’t know where we are going until we get to the airport. None of us have been before but everyone we know who has says it’s fantastic.
Four Seasons Resort on Nevis. Not sure if Nevis was affected by the hurricane last year, but it is a great spot. H and I went for our 20th anniversary.
Cruise to Mexico and/or to Washington…,out of LA…Carnival cruise …no…Nashville under consideration…cruises are great…$1000 a day doesn’t count here because cruises include food…My family doesn’t hike. I cannot. The rest We have been to New Hampshire and Maine…that is roughing for me. But we completely loved our time there. The Broadmore has thrown its hat in…
…and the budget of$1000 per day…only for hotel…food extra
Does your dh like art? What about Santa Fe? We went to New Orleans last year and had a great time. Not big drinkers (since when I think of NO, I think of Mardi Gras) but we went to a place with dueling pianos which was great fun, the WWII Museum is really well done, did a tour of Mardi Gras floats (this was not during MG) and had a few good meals. Is he a golfer? On one big birthday, I surprised my dh with a trip to Pebble Beach where he and friends golfed. The rest of us enjoyed time with other activities and in Carmel. Had a big group dinner. He loved it and his BF said it was the best birthday he never had.
Portugal? Sunniest place in Europe And it’s affordable! Air b& b apts for 6 in Lisbon under $200 a night… Plus great seafood, wine, amazing historic city, great nightlife, and direct flights from LAX!
$1000/night for 6 people (3 rooms) is about $300/night. It would be hard to get 5 star hotels at some more popular places, like HI. I was thinking maybe Scottsdale, but the rooms at the Fairmont and even Hyatt and Hilton are $500+/room.
What about Las Vegas? I haven’t been, but my brother from CA likes to go there for entertainment and dining. He doesn’t gamble at all. He said it is like a grown up disney. Bellagio is around 250 and other 5 star hotels are about the same price.
While not Four Seasons, it is right next to it. And 4 fabulous lagoons! There is championship golf course next door and plenty of restaurants to choose from.
Vegas - yikes. It is like a freak show on steroids. Been there once, and that is enough.
