Mudd Frosh Taking Questions

Yes, it is worthwhile to go. Prefrosh weekend is a ton of fun. And you get to meet all the cool people you are going to go to school with.

ok, I already asked about this but…
I was accepted into corporate scholars, which leaves me with a tough decision bc HMC was my second choice and I got into my first. THis sounds stupid, but I would really like to talk to a lesbian that goes to HMC… so if you know anyone… it would be greatly appreciated… I don’t mean like a girl that kisses other girls at parties, I mean a girl that genuinely dates other females… please shoot me a PM if you are someone or know someone…

well i know statistically speaking its stupid, but Hm is ranked #10 for most G/L friendly campuses soo

yeah but I’d obviously prefer to talk to someone…

Loki come to the Admin. Student Program so you can meet me! haha ok sorry I’m going to butt out now.

Walking w/ a Ghost: Have you tried posting on Scripps boards? I mean, it’s all girls there, so… you might hit something there. Maybe? :/

I should probably do that… I was looking specifically for someone at Harvey Mudd because that’s obviously where I would take the majority of my classes, but that’s a good thought, thanks

I don’t know a lot about your question, but I do know that Mudd is definitely very accepting of GLBTQ and there is a very present queer population on all 5Cs.

I’m at one of the other 5Cs and would say that you could ask this question of anyone in Claremont, because the overlap of all the colleges is HUGE, especially with something like GLBTQ where you can join a club or organization (there are probably 2-3) to meet people on the other campuses. The QRC (Queer Resource Center) often hosts parties (Queer Prom, among them) that are popular and usually attended by people of all sexualities.

I know I haven’t specifically answered your question, but I do know that acceptance is very high, the pool, as you say, seems fairly sizable, and the 5C community does a LOT to bring all of the individual campuses together on the issue. You might have better luck trying to find someone from Claremont in general, because there’s enough interaction between the colleges that they could probably give you as good of an idea as a Mudder.

so how easy is it to get around in Claremont? Is there much to do on the weekends? I love going to the movie theater, but my friend at Pomona says there aren’t any theaters nearby for me to go to.

my room is the closest movie theater around here. we have a movie/music network with 11+ terabytes on it.

you will find yourself pretty busy most of the time. get ready to cut back on movies or something.

its easy to get around claremont. just have a bike if you really want to get to the other end of campus. else, it is a 20 minute walk from hmc to the other end (pomona college’s south end).

haha well if I actually knew you, I’d say I’d have to hit up your dorm “movie theater” there. But, since I don’t know you, that’d probably be awkward ;).
My Pomona friend (he needs a name) also said that Pomona has a network to quickly transfer movies and songs among users around the school, and said Harvey Mudd probably has its own too. Is this true?
It’s good to know it’s easy to get around. I thinking bringing a bike might be hard at first since I live in Missouri, but hey, I don’t mind a pleasant walk.

Getting around the campuses on foot is absolutely no problem in the world, although most Mudders do seem to opt for some sort of wheels (and preferences really do vary…I’ve seen some pretty interesting modes of transportation). Getting around the surrounding city…much less easy. Local public transit is more or less nonexistent, especially on the weekends, but getting into LA isn’t hard because there’s a Metro (train) station in the Village (local shopping area at the South end of the Consortium). Your best bet is befriending people with cars who also like to get off campus. Each of the schools tries to organize events to get kids off, especially first years.

There’s currently no big movie theatre within walking distance, although one is in-the-works right outside the Village. Pomona has a $2 movie theatre and shows movies (out of the theatres, not yet out for purchase) every Thurs-Sun, and those are open to students from all 5Cs.

Mudd has a HUGE network, and from what I know, it’s far more heavily utilized than those of any other school in Claremont! rocketDA really isn’t lying by calling his dorm room a movie theatre; it’s easy to just download movies, episodes, whatever and watch them on your computer. Also, the LAC (activities center) has a lot of movies for rent. You can open an account with a $10 deposit (I think) and check out whatever/whenever.

The closest actual movie theatre is…I don’t know. Not far at all, but beyond walking distance. A very quick and easy drive. There are a few all pretty near by.

But enough of the movie thing…to answer the first part of your question, YES. There is PLENTY to do ALL the time. More than you’ll ever be able to get done. You will be at a school that has things going on somewhere all day, every day, and there will be 4 more just like it across the street. Such is the beauty of Claremont ;o) Really, though…no shortage of ways to be entertained.

you know, i just wanted to say that i have not slept more than 8 hours in the last 96 hours. nearly 3 all-nighters in a row. (only one was a true all nighter)

i’m about to go to bed…at 5 20AM…class at 8 but i’ve got a paper i need to work on…so yeah…

wait, i lied…going to bed now…

wait, i lied again… i never went to bed

i officially have not slept for 55 hours. i’m going to class now. late

rocketDA, you’re scaring me for next year! that’s not cool :P

i just gotta let you know how it is going to be sometimes…

keyword: sometimes

where are you from?

southern california (orange county)… mudd’s proximity to my house had nothing to do with my decision… although nothing beats so cal…

so where else did you look at for school? and what major are you looking at?
