Murder of the UnitedHealthcare CEO

I wouldn’t if I were United Healthcare. Then people will say that it’s money they made and can offer up by denying some people health care.

Could be. But what about the family? It would be hard to begrudge them their desire to find the killer.

I have to assume there are protocols in place when it comes to reward money in cases where the FBI is actively involved.

I agree. I think there is a point where a large sum actually hinders the investigation - too many useless “tips”.

An ‘expert’ (not sure if it was FBI or NYPD) said the amount of the award doesn’t increase the number of reports or ‘help calls’.

And you get thousands more “Hail Mary” phone calls “maybe I’ll get the reward”. So “I think this might be the guy who works at Midas on Main Street in Wichita”, followed by “I saw this guy ordering breakfast at the Waffle House in Daytona Beach, if you get there now you’ll catch him before he leaves”.

Don’t provide incentives for stupidity!

They’ve released two more pictures. The “person of interest” is wearing a different coat in every set of pics they’ve released. An additional jacket was found in the backpack with the Monopoly money. This guy brought more coats on a trip to NYC than I own!

Or he lifted one off the seat of the bus on his way to NY; stole a coat from the hostel he stayed in; grabbed an unguarded coat on a bench in Central Park as he ran.

There’s a reason why law enforcement officers are trained to notice footwear. Everyone can recall “The guy was in a gray hat and blue coat”. But once he ditches the hat and the coat… stealing a coat which won’t make you look conspicuous is a lot easier than stealing a pair of shoes which you need to fit properly if you’re on the run!

Quite possible that he picked up coats randomly or perhaps acquired them once he was in NYC. This seems too well planned to have counted on finding a coat that would fit on a bench in the park. Given that he changed his coat and mask between the shooting and 10 minutes later getting a taxi while biking/walking through Central Park I imagine the puffer coat was in the backpack. I haven’t heard anything about his footwear. Maybe he had another set of shoes in the backpack too.

its also quite possible he had the second coat on under the first, and simply ditched the first one.

The silence surrounding this investigation is either really good, or really bad…

I was literally coming to say the same thing…

This is starting to remind me of the University of Idaho murders, but with more planning.

This guys must be a Jack Reacher/Jason Bourne fan.

don’t get me started with those. That is shameful how long that has drug on

This guy is being questioned b/c he has a gun similar to the one used?? (ETA more info they reported matches the suspect. Headline was misleading and now apparently changed).

I think it is an unusual weapon for this type of crime. I read that it is a type of veterinary pistol used in farming. How they linked it to a man in Altoona is fascinating.
