I heard this morning that the customer and employee will split any reward. Hopefully that closes one chapter here.
Link? That’s good news. They both deserve it. At some level so does the receptionist at the hostel, but she doesn’t qualify. It’s simply that her request to see his face helped significantly.
They reported it on Good Morning America this morning.
The parents had reported him “missing” in San Francisco (not sure why there) several weeks ago. Luigi Mangione reported missing to San Francisco cops weeks ago
It’s interesting that they didn’t recognize their “missing” son when he was plastered all over the internet and news.
I still feel we don’t know everything. I will say that as more details come out I do have a lot of empathy for this family. It must be just horrible to see your once vibrant son commit such a terrible crime. I’m sure they are blaming themselves.
This is how I feel too. It is terrible for both families. They will forever be known as the family with “a murderer for a son” and be thrown through the wolves with “what did the parents do wrong”. I just can’t help but wonder what went wrong with this young man who seemingly had it all- money, looks, educated, lots of friends. Something happened in his brain and heart and I do find myself feeling a big of sadness for his family as well.
I am guessing that asking customers to lower their face masks (to capture them on security camera) might be part of the check-in protocol at the hostel. In the news it was characterized as him “flirting”, but it could have been her “flirting” --not because she had a real interest in him, but because female workers learn to sort of “flirt” to avoid angering men, e.g. “Show me your smile!” vs. “Lower your facemask for the camera.”
His friends too. Before his social media was taken down, I clicked on the feed of one of his friends he tagged in a photo last year. This guy put up his own post saying that the guy he knew would have never done something like this. So I do wonder if it was that part of their own minds who just would never imagine it could be him based on the person they knew.
I hope this girl gets a raise too
Wow, this is a whole other comment for discussion.
Sure. Women are penalized for being assertive. In various situations I have done it myself. Pissing men off=more trouble than it is worth. Being “charming” is safer.
Perhaps that is a policy at the hostel, for safety reasons (to see their full face, especially with a female receptionist) but they word the request diplomatically so as not to “upset” (for lack of a better word) the customer
This is exactly how I am thinking it happened. Much like at the airport, they ask you to lower your mask to verify you match your ID.
Maybe his friends are sympathetic to the cause of murdering healthcare CEOs because they deny coverage.
I don’t think so.
Yea not so sure purposely concealing the identity of a fugitive would be something they thought would be a wise decision.
Or maybe…hear me out…not everyone is as obsessively following this news story as many of us on CC. I asked my 22 year old if she was following it and she was vaguely familiar with the story, but certainly not following it enough to even know a photo had ben released.
Given how many men are murdered, that’s good advice for men as well.
Ok, that could be true for his immediate friends circle, but he was an apparently well liked person, no doubt known by hundreds of people. Not one of them stepped up.
