I don’t think it is going to change anything.
Me too. Having witnessed psychotic episodes in real life, I really have a hard time viewing him in a normal way.
There is no justification for what happened, none. That doesn’t mean the victim was a great person or that anger against UHC and other health care providers is not real or IMO justified but violence is not the answer, among which that such actions often get totally innocent people killed. The anger to answer another poster in this thread (without making this a thread on healthcare) is that insurance companies across the board, including health insurers, to improve profits are lowballing or denying claims and basically telling people 'you don’t like it, sue us". People feel helpless, they pay a lot for health insurance then when they need it they face not only being sick but financially hit hard as well and no one seems to back them, certainly not state regulators or the federal government, no one seems to care to them.
I also think a lot of the people making the shooter a hero are frankly internet ■■■■■■ or people who are just looking to be angry shrug. There was an article in the paper that wanted posters are appearing in cities with the faces of health care CEO’s, which tells you how sick the atmosphere is.
This was despicable. I wonder how the retraction came to be?
“I have never been prouder to be a professor at the University of P3nnsylvania,” Alekseyeva wrote in a post on TikTok. She also shared a post from 34th Street Magazine on her Instagram story about Mangione, referring to him as the “icon we all need and deserve.”
An apology is inadequate.
One article I read says that she is an assistant professor; these actions of hers should be crucial when her employment comes up for tenure application, if not sooner.
What a hot potato this assistant professor’s tenure review will be … Any decision will be seen as politically biased, even if it would have been the same without any of this happening.
Wow.
I honestly think that some of those making him out to be a hero or asking him to be their “baby daddy” are attention seeking people trying to draw attention to themselves. There is a girl on tik tok claiming she was his girlfriend (not true) and clearly she’s doing it for the likes on TikTok. She stated she was with him the day of the murder. Of course I’m wondering if that could be held against her for trying to hinder an investigation.
Isn’t this the way some wealthy people get more wealthy and stay wealthy - underpaying or not paying for services and then waiting out the complainant in court delays until they have to finally go bankrupt or give up. I think it’s a well known strategy by some wealthy folks.
Maybe someone pointing out that she could be arrested as an accessory to murder (not just complicit by not turning him in) and that could shut her up.
Honestly, it’s as if the people posting this lunacy don’t understand how the internet works…
I believe this young man has a mental health condition that has been fueled by online supporters, which hasn’t helped. Yes, the system is broken, but the CEO did not deserve this at all. Anger is justified, murder is not, but I believe the murderer is not of a mental capacity of a normal person.
FBI is investigating the suspect’s family for not recognizing and reporting him based on the earlier photos according to NYP.
Also, some are saying that the tipper did not get the presumed compensation because they called 911 and not CrimeWatchers, which gives out the reward. Has anyone heard about this?
If there’s one group I will give a pass to, it’s the immediate family. They could just be in disbelief given how they raised him.
Ditto.
Not recognizing someone is not a crime.
I don’t think the suspected acted because of his (or a family member) being denied medical care by UHC or another health care system. His family is extremely wealthy. The prep school he attended is very expensive. Most catholic families in Baltimore send their kids to catholic high schools, but he went to Gilman, a very prestigious school.
It appears his issues are more likely from his time after college, living in a ‘community’ (cult?) and leading book groups and becoming more political. I just don’t think it had anything to do with his own medical issues, except that he may have become more interested in health care when researching his own conditions. Really no indication that he was ever turned down for medical care or a procedure.
He was supposed to be in a friends wedding a few months ago and stopped communicating with everyone. I feel for the parents but did they even try to track him down.
