My daughter is a PIANIST AND VOCALIST. Should she try for a piano AND vocal scholarship, or just concentrate on one? We are told by a piano professor at a college we visited that there are more vocalists trying for scholarships than pianists, so we’re thinking her odds will be higher for piano, but what are your thoughts?

She was very impressed with Carson-Newman College - any thoughts there?

Blessings…

I don’t think anyone can answer that question without knowing how proficient in voice/piano your daughter is. Voice may have more applicants, but advanced piano is very, very competitive. At the bare minimum most pianists practice 4-6 hours per day to be competitive, and many practice 8+ now adays. Voice is usually less competitive, though the judging can be more difficult as tone color is far, far more subjective and varied.

Whichever your daughter feels most comfortable she should go for.
