Iâm really struggling rn⊠So far I havenât passed screens for any name schools (around 10 pre screen rejections) & itâs making me nervous for auditions. I did pass pre screens for Shenandoah, Oberlin, CU Boulder, & U Miami, which is a blessing. I also have auditions set up for Belmont, Arizona State, LIU Post, Illinois Urbana Champagne, Emerson (redirect to acting) and am still waiting on University of Central Florida + Viterbo (academic acceptance). I just feel really beat up by the process & am scared that I wonât be successful if I donât go to a ânameâ school. Any advice?
My advice would be to stop worrying about the name of the school. Honestly, you should be looking at what each school you audition for can offer, and how you feel about their vibe; what level of training you have and what you need - this is what you should be thinking about in terms of fit.
Successful performers come from all sorts of schools, and also from no school at all.
Donât get so caught up in the prestige of a program that you forget your why! By your why I mean what do you do this (Musical Theatre) for. In order to be successful in this industry you have to have a âwhyâ greater than getting every single thing you audition for because unfortunately rejection is inevitable. Additionally, Shenandoah is often regarded as one of the best programs for musical theatre in the country so you should be extremely proud of yourself! With Oberlin you have the FABULOUS Vicki Bussert (her reputation speaks for itself) serving as the Head of the MT program coming from baldwin wallace. She has taught some of the biggest names on Broadway today (Kate Rockwell, Ciara Renee). So it is absolutely a privilege to be chosen to audition with her! Lastly with UMiami, Joshua Henry (Ragtime, Into the Woods, Waitress, In the Heights and so many more). As you can see, it is less about the name and more about the connection with the faculty and above all your dedication to the next 4 years of intense training no matter where you go! I am so super proud of you and you should never ever count yourself out of success! Bring your positive and bright self into every single thing you do, and then youâll find out you canât lose! The college audition process does not control your destiny, YOU do! Wishing you a wonderful audition season and I hope you realize how much of a star you truly are

Not yet! My daughter is in the same boat. I went into her portal today and I noticed that she now has a number where it says Emerson College ID. Before Iâm positive she just had the Your Admission Office ID (which is still there) and the other was left blank. Does this mean anything???
hello!
does anyone know how many prescreens these schools pass/how competitive it is to get a prescreen pass for one of them?
Rider BFA MT
Syracuse BFA MT
Syracuse BFA Acting
Elon BFA Acting
Penn State BFA Acting
Pace BFA Acting
Pace BFA Acting: FTVC
thanks
These schools are all quite competitive, so likely not easy to pass prescreens. That said, hundreds will still pass prescreens.
Not on your list, but as an example:
UMich auditions (prescreen passes) about 600 students;
Emerson auditions (prescreen passes) about 400 students.
Itâs very dependent on the school and how many applications they get.
Those passed prescreens have some big names in there! Also keep in mind Oberlin is a sleeper because itâs a brand new program and thatâs a HUGE get, congrats! Youâll get a vibe from the audition, and thatâs all that really matters to get you to the right place. Trust your gut AFTER the audition and offers, and all will work out!
I remember it being said by one of the program leaders at Rider that they do not have a set number of prescreens they pass it all just depends on who they are interested in seeing again
My son is waiting for USC general admission (not theatre - that was my daughter several years back) and I know EA decisions are being released this Friday. Maybe theyâll release prescreens at same time?
