Musical Theater College Admission 2025

yes, umich called students yesterday with offers. portal updates will most likely come out at some point this afternoon for all applicants though!

When was your Emerson Audition?

Huh- when I talked to them yesterday they said results were coming in mid-March. Have we heard of anyone getting calls yet or is this based on previous years?

several of my friends were accepted over the phone last night!

Ah so the rejections come today I guess :sob:. Congrats to your friends!

Hi – so new here and proud parent. I have a quick question: we have several situations where our kiddo has applied and decisions are out (both yes and no) but they have not heard anything. Do some schools have stealth waitlists?

From my understanding some schools have rolling decisions- so they release results over a few days and not all at once. So that could be the situation with your kid!

They typically call on one day - that was yesterday - and send out waitlists and rejections the next day.

yes! some schools, like usc, are notorious for having waitlists that aren’t connected to students’ applicant portals. some others, like rider and montclair, have explicit waitlists that are released on a rolling basis.

Thanks all! These are cases where both the yeses and nos have been out for over a week, so it’s a bit frustrating. But hope springs eternal!

Not too surprising
received the official REJECTION letter from UMich. They pointed out the extremely high level of interest in the program this year, making a very competitive program even more competitive than in year’s past. Oh well.

Got word from Florida St. Our first WAIT LIST. Better than a “no” I suppose.

A waitlist is good news! You may have heard this, but sometimes emailing back that there is still interest can be helpful for the schools. People often move off of the waitlist! Congratulations. Sorry about UMich though :frowning:

Good advice! She spent Summer 2024 at FSU for their 2 week intensive. Has a solid relationship with the people/program. Probably got wait listed because of not being a stellar dancer. FSU is a “dancey” school, or so we’ve been told. Grateful she got in to at least one “extreme reach” program (Elon). I’m still rooting for my USC Trojans to accept her later this month (fingers crossed). Time will tell.

Great school/program, but I’m SoCal guy. Too damn cold up there! LOL

Hi all! Been hanging out here for awhile, but thought I would chime in. Post auditions we have heard from 9/16 programs. We have 4 yeses, 2 waitlists, and 3 nos so far. He did 12 prescreens and passed 7. Here’s his updated list

Prescreens not passed:

Boston university
CCM
Florida State
Ithaca
Texas State MT

Rejections:

Juilliard
Michigan
Texas State Acting

Waitlist:

Western Michigan
University of Nebraska Lincoln Acting

Accepted:

Lyric Theatre at University of Illinois
AMDA
LIU
Bowling Green State

Still waiting:

Ball State
OCU
Indiana
Point Park
Pace
SCAD
LIPA

He passed his prescreen for Syracuse but did not end up being able to get an audition slot and missed the deadline for virtual. He did quite a few walk in’s at the Chicago Unifieds. He is still waiting to hear from his top choice. We are planning a couple of visits to schools over spring break so he can sit in on classes and meet with students and faculty.

Best of luck to everyone and may the waiting go quickly!

Nice list! Lyric Theatre UIUC isn’t one you see mentioned a lot, but it was at the top of my daughter’s list last year. Really cool program. She didn’t end up there, but it was definitely a contender. Just didn’t end up making financial sense for us when she had a great in-state offer. Best of luck with the ones your son is still waiting on:).

He’s really excited about that one. It’s his 2nd choice as of right now, and he has a visit planned. But he also knows that finances will play into all of these offers in the end. So we will see!

So glad he has a visit planned. My daughter did that as well as a sample lesson. She was also able to shadow the LT studio class–she would highly recommend that if he gets the chance. On her audition day, we attended their fall show. It was amazing!
