Must Extracurriculars Be a Correlation with "Passion"?

Say you have a passion for something; must most of your extracurricular activities be dealing with that passion? What if the place where you live doesn’t offer many of those opportunities or you do not have those financial means to make something possible? Say you are interested in media, and television, and possibly being a television personality. What activities could I partake in that would give me a chance to gain experiecne in that area?

Thanks in advance!

You’re ECs MUST not be anything, it’s whatever you care to do.

As for media, try your local stations, like local channels. Go and ask if there’s any way you can help around the offices or the studio, anything to just be around it.

But at the same time, don’t do something just because it’ll look good, do it because you want to.

Hope that helps :].

I feel you. Anything with the “telivised media” wouldn’t be an option because the closest TV station is at least an hour away…Not all kids have the benefit of parental suppotr (i.e. rides, car transportation), especially in rural areas.

Oh, I was just asking for possible extracurriculars I can do that deal with media, since it’s an area I enjoy. I was just going to ask if colleges will look down on me if I say I have those aspirations but don’t have much ECs that deal with them. I am the Editor-in-Chief of my high school newspaper and I am going to enter a writing competition.

Thanks for the advice. Any more?

Bump please!

Bumping again! Any advice?

Media… Well if you live somewhere NYC you can always work at MTV. One of my friends was offered a job at MTV, and she loves going to Time Square.

Doing an excellent job on your h.s. newspaper – writing stories on serious issues that require lots of reporting – is excellent preparation for other types of media. Some of the best TV journalists got their start on high school and college newspapers.
