My best friends are competing?

So I have a problem: All four of my best friends are getting all competitive now about their extra curriculars and grades and everything. We're just freshmen, but we want to go to good colleges. They constantly talk about what would look good on their college resumes and stuff. They brag about what they are doing. I don't want to be mean and tell them this, but I'm getting tired of it. Why can't we all just be friends like we were in middle school? I like them as people, but they're just freaking out over everything. Ex: We went to a meeting today at lunch where we learned we could apply to be treasurer. All four of them instantly decided they were going to do it just so that they can put it on their college apps. I wouldn't really run for treasurer because I don't think I'm the right person to do that kind of work. I get that they're really worried about getting in to a good college, but I feel like I'm losing my friends in all this college hype. How do I let them know that I just want us to be normal friends and keep all this stuff out of it?

Just chill. Your example sounds pretty weak, so maybe a lot of it is in your head.

Uh, just tells them.

No, this isn't in my head. I can't give you all the examples. One of them has actually talked to me about how she believes another one of my friends is trying to be better than her.

How is that crazy? Someone thinks that another person is trying to beat them? That's just competition.

That's just competition.

Uh obviously you didn't read the title, but that's what the OP has a problem with. (That such competition will cause his group of friends to potentially turn aggressive towards one another and part their ways.)

They will get over this "college craze" phase. Everyone has one. Just wait it out and try to distance yourself from them or try not to get involved until they realize that what they are doing is stupid.

Not to be rude, but you may want to consider finding new friends. Or do what 609 represent suggested as well.

Wow, already like that in freshman year. Tel them know they have a lot of time.
