My daughter was waitlisted

SAT - 1430
GPA - 4.2
AP .s - 8
Leadership/ office bearer - 4 - 5 clubs at school and immense volunteering experiences.

Instate Application.

Disapponted to note that my daughter was waitlisted inspite of pretty good GPA and SAT.
Accepting the decision as our Lord knows what is good for her,

The waitlist can be frustrating. We’ve had the waitlist response in our house - not fun, but we’re all about moving on! I hope your daughter has a good option she will grow to love and from which she will not look back. If she can’t shake the feeling she belongs at UVA though, she can apply to transfer in the fall of her 2nd year (or later). https://admission.virginia.edu/transfer/faq

Thank you so much for letting me know about transfer option and for the link. I do not know if she would want to move in 2nd year from any other school.
Yes! Every thing is for a reason! we will keep moving on!

Sorry for your disappointment. While those are good stats, as many of us know, stats (test scores and GPA and AP totals) are not always good indicators of ability to get into schools. Every high school is so different and us not knowing where a 4.2 stands and what was available to your child to take in terms of rigorous classes. UVA expects kids to take the most rigorous schedule available to them and to perform well. The GPA is different from high school to high school. Some weight honors, some weight both AP/honors, some don’t offer advanced classes until junior year…it is so different. I am sure your child did well, but stats don’t tell the entire story. Also, while you do report the SAT score, it is in the middle 50% of UVA’s enrolled class (taken from their latest CDS 1290-1470). So it is good, but not amazing for the highest chances to get into such a selective school. Hopefully if she accepted the WL she will get great news from UVA. It is so hard today because it is so competitive, and everything counts on an application. But I am sure that your child will end up at a great school.

To add one note, I think they report that 95% of the class is in the top 10% of their HS class. My friends daughter has a 4.2 at my kids high school but is ranked around 80 so she is not in the top 10% of her class. The 5% that are not in the top 10% may be students with other statuses such as a recruited athlete for example. Although we know athletes there with top scores so I am not saying all athletes would fall in this range.

The “top 10%” stat only applies to students who came from schools that report rank. Entire counties have done away with reporting rank and few private schools report it. I know people assume we somehow get passed this info, but that isn’t the case.

Grade inflation is real, y’all.
