<p>The difference between that and what happened though is that to be charged with crimes related to organized crime you need to be involved at a much deeper level than paying for sex. If I went out and paid for sex I wouldn’t be charged with anything to do with organized crime, I’d simply get snagged on the prostitution charge.</p>

<p>An example of how sanctimonious Spitzer was is illustrated by his law suit against Dick Grasso. Grasso was the former head of the new york stock exchange and was employed by member of the exchange. Those members were not small investors, they were large billion dollar brokerage firms with sophisticated and brilliant employees. Sptizer didn’t like the high deferred compensation package Grasso got so Spitzer sued Grasso. As part of that action, Spitzer deposted Grasso’s secretary and asked her questions about whether she had had an affair with Grasso. Grasso’s private sexual behavior had nothing to do with how he was compensated, but that didn’t matter to Spitizer. Spitzer was looking for a way to discredit and ruin Grasso just because Grasso stood up to Spitizer. Every intimate detail of Spitizer’s personal sex life with all of his hookers should be exposed in the media for everyone to know – just the way Spitzer would have done to Grasso, if Spitzer had found any dirt on Grasso.</p>

<p>Note that no charges were even filed and the company has been beaten into the ground. It must be nice to be the son of a zillionaire and feel free to destroy other people’s money on a whim. Speaking of money, the AP is now saying that he may have spent as much as $80,000 on prostitutes. I can’t wrap my White Trash brain around that.</p>

<p>Many will say these are victimless crimes, matters of a personal nature etc. and that what he is most guilty of is hypocrisy (although certainly he’s violated the public trust placed with him) and a post above mentions that this is no indication that Spitzer is involved in “organized crime”.</p>
<p>Quite the contrary. I would presume an enterprise like this was not run by the boy scouts and as he gets/got involved he is/was opening himself for deep entanglements, possibilites of black mail and countless circumstances that compromise his ability to carry out his public duties and place(d) him at risk at the hands that knew his (then) secret involvement.</p>
<p>So this goes beyond just paying for sex, for someone that is/was in such a position of government power. </p>
