<p>Five grand for a prostitute? Wow! Our governor got his jollies for free at NJ Turnpike rest stops. If only the prostitute were a man, Spitzer could announce, “I am a gay American” and the press would back down immediately.</p>

<p>My first thought was for his daughters. Having been a (small) campaign contributor, I get their holiday cards and he has a lovely wife, both inside and out from what I’ve read, and three high-school-aged daughters. I cannot even imagine what it must be like for them. This reminds me of how awful I felt for Chelsea Clinton.</p>

<p>I feel very badly for the wife and kids as well; however, it’s a little irksome to hear pundit after pundit going ‘awwww…what a tragedy for him; he was on a path to the presidency’. Good grief…a tragedy is a drunk driver traveling wrongway down the highway and killing/maiming a car full of college students. Spitzer made his choices, which btw were felony choices and just slighty objectionable behavior for a governor.</p>
<p>Always the wife standing by the side of the guy. One of these days the unfaithful confessing guy needs to show up alone and with a black eye. (Only kidding, I don’t condone violence.)</p>
<p>missypie, I wonder at the wives who are able to stand with their husbands under these circumstances, too. It must be excruciating, especially if they have just learned of the situation. I am probably a lesser being, but I would not do this. I’d be busy tending to my children and finding a divorce lawyer.</p>

<p>At first, the wives are probably in a state of shock akin to when there is a sudden death…someone tells them to stand there and they do it. Dunno…I think I’d be so furious that they wouldn’t even ASK me to be on stage by his side.</p>

<p>But its a BIG problem, in New York at least, the hubris and ego of prosecutors. Prosecutors I think make lousy politicians cause they’re used to having so much power. it goes to their head. mayor Rudy G. is prime example, and way before that, gov. dewey, who thought he could be president w/o campaigning until HST showed him up. now spitzer, whom i have always had misgivings about since hearing him speak before he was elected and thought to myself “Wow. This guy is sure full of himself.” </p>
