My daughter’s number one choice is U of Wisconsin, this Texas kid only applied to all northern universities:
GPA 3.8 (lots of AP)
Varsity athlete, 8 organizations, works part time, volunteers at hospital, took summer class at Notre Dame and U of Michigan before senior year
12% rank in class of 600 kids
can’t remember her SAT or ACT, but they were fine for sure, crazy high math score (that’s her love)……she is giving herself an ulcer in worry……
thoughts from those with U of W incite……?
thanks!!
K
Be careful of what you wish for.
Snow is great when you’re on vacation; it’s pretty, freshly-fallen white; you’ve got no serious time commitments; and it’s a medium for recreation (skiing).
Snow is a royal pain in the wazoo when you’re not on vacation; it’s been sitting on the ground for weeks and covered w nasty grey soot; the salt from the roads is ruining your leather shoes; and you’ve got to walk through/around it to get to school/work.
Sigh, I know right….the D is wanting to experience a different region of the country than where she was raised and is interested in U of W, Agricultural Engineering program. I was curious of others thoughts on her odds of acceptance in to U of W……she has other acceptances but really wants that school….
Without test scores, it is hard to say. Also, when did she submit her app?
I moved from Texas to Maine in 1986 and still love the snow. I wish it snowed more!
I assume if her SAT is descent (1800 or higher) she will get in for sure, as long as that 3.8 is unweighted and not weighted.
UW is a really great school, my dad went there and I loved it when I visited, but I don’t want to be that far from home.
Think about Minnesota too. It is among the cheapest for OOS students.
My daughter – from Atlanta – also loves snow and only applied to universities in the northern half of the country, aside from one in-state university that I insisted on. She’s now a freshman at University of Minnesota. Her only complaint so far is that it has only snowed once since she got there (technically once more, but over the holidays while she isn’t there).
I hope your daughter gets into Wisconsin. I had hosted an exchange student in the past who is now about to graduate from Wisconsin, and it’s a great university. I’m sure your daughter’s other choices would work out for her as well, since it seems like she made thoughtful choices when applying to universities.
It’s funny. My daughter had filled out a little questionnaire when she was in middle school about the things she wanted to have in a university, and she had written in big letters across the top of the questionnaire: “SNOW!!!”
