My Life Dream *IMPORTANT*

Hi everyone,

I’m from Jakarta, Indonesia, and currently an International student of a community college in the US. To provide an extended amount of information, my ethnicity is Asian. Right now, I am finishing AA in Business Mgmt. (graduating Summer '14) and planning to transfer to UVa Fall 2015 after a year of internship / job exposure (OPT) related to my major. I have been planning to apply to UVa McIntire School of Commerce to major in marketing ever since high school years.

I have managed to maintain a 3.96 cumulative GPA throughout my Freshman year. However, I just recently had a 3.7 (A-) in Microeconomics and a 3.4 (B+) in Calculus II. These grades brought me down to a 3.90 cuml. GPA. I have worked hard for both classes and teachers have offered to give me recommendation letters when I transfer.

Here’s my Freshman grades history:

Quarter 1: EAP (4.0), PE 120 (4.0), Accounting I (4.0), Jazz 107 (4.0)

Quarter 2: Bus 101 (4.0), Calculus I (3.8), Accounting II (4.0), PE 220 (4.0), English 100 (3.9)

Quarter 3: Psych 100 (4.0), English 101 (4.0), Accounting III (4.0), Stats (3.8)

Apart from these grades, I am highly involved in school activities, such as:
Phi Theta Kappa Club, Ignite Club, and Business Club.
I am an Executive Officer for Academics in Student Government.
I also do tons of community services (part of YWCA and Rotaract).
On top of these, I also have received scholarships from ISS and Peace Foundation.

Speaking of my passion in marketing career, I have already taken a proactive role becoming a collegiate chapter officer for AMA (American Marketing Association) and NAPW (National Association of Professional Women) to expand my networking capabilities.

I have submitted application to do UVa summer school in 2014.
My SAT scores were 1470 and 1610. I plan to take it again.

My questions are:

 1. Do my 3.7 and 3.4 grades affect my chance of getting in?
 2. Will one-year internship (OPT) related to my intended major & summer school in UVa higher my chance?
 3. Do I need to include high-school credentials to transfer into UVa’s McIntire? (My highschool grades were below average)

I don’t know the answer. However, please keep in mind that there are plenty of US colleges with excellent business programs, and that UVa’s Comm School turns down many current UVa students for admission.

Thanks for your reply, charlieschm. I think I should just apply next year though, right? I do have a strong passion and McIntire has always been my first choice.
