So, about a month ago my roomie was kicked out of our university for possession of weed. She was cool but I figured I’d enjoy my space after she left. I did at first, but now it can be kind of lonely. Should I request a new roommate, or wait it out until I meet some new friends. I’m a freshman btw.

Also, if you recommend that I request a new roommate, how would I go about doing that?

I wished my roommate from last year who got caught with weed would have gotten kicked out (not because of the weed though). I think you should go to your RA and ask her or him how much power you would have in determining who would be chosen to live with you, so you can decide if this person would be a good fit to live with you. You also should look at your circle of friends outside of your room. Is it really that important to have a roommate if you have a secure group of people to stick around?

She got kicked out? Geez, most people at my school would just get a slap on the hand (but maybe the rules are more lax in PA). My fantasy is finally having a single room for the rest of college but if you really want a roommate, you’d probably talk to the residential or student dean about it and they might set you up with one for spring semester.

Thanks guys. I think I’m going to speak to my RA, as some of you recommended, and see what should be expected from this whole situation. You guys are probably right about the fact that I’ll most likely end up with someone regardless, so I think I’ll just wait it out regardless of what the RA says.

Actually, if you have any friends that you would like to live with, who are unhappy with their present roommate, you two might want to go to the housing office together to see if she could be reassigned to your room–or else you will likely be receiving a roomie who did not get along with her previous roommate. She could be perfectly fine…or not, if she was the major cause of the problems in her previous room.
