My SAT results+ admission decisions

Hello,

I published in last Septemeber a discussion asking for advice about my application to some colleges in USA,
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-admissions/1812980-what-do-you-advice-me-to-do.html#latest

and I want to share with you some of my SAT results and admission decisions;

IELTS results: 6.5
SAT results: 1580-1680

Colleges I have applied for: Davidson, Berea, St.John’s, Grinnell, Macalester, NYU Abu Dhabi.

Admission decisons:

St.John’s: accepted as early admission student (for Maryland campus), they agried on a merit scholarship of 18,000 USD per year, and 26,650 USD grant.
Macalester; rejected.

I will post other college’s decison as soon as they are available, which should be very soon now.

Congratulation on Berea and Grinnel! is that SAT CR+math onlY?

@paul2752 thank you for your comment, is admission less competitive for Berea and Grinnell? I think this is why you mentionned them. This is my overall score (all sections). I know it is far away from being a good score for most colleges, so I think St.John’s should have focused on my other qualifications.

Oh…sorry I read wrong. I thouthg you were already admitted since its May. No, those two are very competitive. Your scores are so far away from all schools you applied range(IDK about Berea)

Hi again,

I received admission decision from Grinnell: rejected

Congratulations gor St John’s and good luck with the other ones. Could you please share your GPAs, junior, senior years GPAs please ??! Extracurriculars? Essay Topics you choose? Common or Universal app? Country? AP classes or something? High school curriculum?

@YaraHee Thank you for your comment. I’m from Algeria, our schools here don’t use GPA, each term of academic year we have exams in all subjects and a score of term, my scores were between 17/20 and 18/20 (our marks are of 20, it is nearly 80 and 90 of 100). At the end of high school we have an exam called Baccalaureate, it is very similar to French one, I got 17.5/20 . Since I was in mathematics class we focused on Maths, physics, chemistry and biology, but we studied many other subjects: history and geography, philosophy, arabic literature, french, english, islamic sciences and music. High school consists of 3 years. I didn’t have any AP and I was qualified for a waiver for SAT test since there is no test center in my country, but I prefered to pass it in another country (st.john’s didn’t require SAT for intel.students, only IELTS or TOEFL).

I used Common App (not only for St.John’s but also for all colleges I applied for except for Berea).

For EC’s I will mention most important ones: president of history and french clubs in my high school, editor at Wikipedia, leader of chess team in my hometown, editor of short stories…

St.John’s give a great importance for essays, so I really worked hard on them, we were asked to write 3 required essays and there were 2 optionals (or thats what I remember, better to check in college’s website), I focused on my big passion for books, and why I want them to be part of my academic life.

Other things I judged positive in my app: I speak 5 languages I attended a boarding national high school and I had an interview with same college via skype.

I hope this answer your questions,

OMGGG CONGRATS =D>

@Zivariel Thank you so much.

Hi,

some good news: accepted from Berea. They agreed to waive 1700 USD from required desposit of 2200 USD (for those who don’t know this college has no tuition fee). Also they said they would cover housing and meals expenses.

Davidson: rejected.

NYU Abu Dhabi: rejected.
Well that was the last of them, I have a collection of rejection letters, though I’m so glade I was admitted to two of my colleges.
