My schools:
Penn
Princeton
Williams
University of Virginia
Swarthmore
Gettysburg
Penn State
James Madison
What do you think my chances of getting into each school are?

Penn-Probably In
Princeton-Trying to guess on a princeton acceptance is pointless.
Williams-Reach
University of Virginia-In
Swarthmore-In
Gettysburg-Safety
Penn State-In
James Madison-In

i think you’ll get into UVA, james madison, gettysburg, and penn state.
princeton and penn are harder because they’re ivies, and you can never really tell with ivies. even if you have perfect grades and sat scores and great extracurriculars, it doesn’t GUARANTEE admission. as for swathmore and williams, both are top tier liberal arts schools so its also hard to know. i think you could enhance your application to these schools by adding supplementary material. maybe a cd of you singing, since you have been in a chorus for four years. i think you could at least get waitlisted at williams and swathmore, and could maybe get accepted.
good luck

“In at Penn and Swat but Williams is a reach???”

I believe it is more difficult to get into Williams than Penn, so yes. I also believe Swarthmore is easier to get into than Williams. I would equate the Williams admissions to that of Harvard/Yale/Princeton, which I would put right above Penn.

I looked back over swarthmore again and it should have been put as a reach as well, as Swarthmore, Amherst, and Williams all seem to have similar admission standards.

Reach: Penn, Princeton, Williams, Swarthmore
Match: UVA (you’re in if you’re in-state, out-of-state is much harder)
Safety: Gettysburg, Penn State, James Madison

No awards? Any class rank? SAT IIs? EC’s are a bit lacking and mediocre. No leadership positions?

No need to submit ACT scores–your SAT scores will suffice.

Are you in-state VA? That will make a big difference. I’ve seen kids with your numbers denied at UVA, in fact more denied than accepted for OOS. If in state, you should talk to your GC. It depends on your school, and he will know what it takes at your school to get into UVA. Penn is always a reach. THis year was a tough year at Brown and Penn at my S’s school where a lot of kids traditionally make it. Kids with your profile were denied.

No way Williams is HYP difficult, it’s not even Brown/Dartmouth difficult, and those are harder then Penn. Williams acceptees at my school, and there are many, have considerably lower qualifications than HyPS acceptees. Swat easier than Williams, I’m not sure on that one but I thinks it’s very close with different types strongly preferring one over the other.

Match: Penn (non-Wharton), Swarthmore, UVA
Safety: Gettysburg, Penn State, James Madison
Trying to guess is pointless: Princeton, Wharton, Williams

Have you won state or national level recognition (meaning awards)? If not, I would say that a good portion of the schools you listed are reach. If you have very good teacher recs, or if you plan on sending in a tape of your singing or something, then your chances improve.

Reach: Penn, Princeton, Williams,
Match: UVA (you’re in if you’re in-state) Swarthmore
Safety: Gettysburg, Penn State, James Madison

Williams is not HYP (though my child picked Williams over Harvard) hard but harder than Brown about the same as Dartmouth but smaller so fewer slots. My child has high school classmates at both B and D and that is their call on the matter. UVA out of state is I think only 15% of total class and a great price value so it is almost Ivy & little three hard. Your accomplishments are impressive and I am sure you will go to a great school. With record apps and record graduating class size and the common app and international and diversity and athletics and oboe players and legacy and donors and on and on it is a hard time to know anything for sure.

A match at Penn, Swarthmore, or UVA (OOS?)?? Seriously? I’m not trying to be harsh, but unless essays and recs are truly exceptional chances at Penn and Swarthmore are looking slim. Stats are average, no better, and ECs show no passion or leadership. You need to find more true matches.

A good friend of my D’s was accepted everywhere she applied, except Williams. That included Yale, Princeton, Duke and several others. Williams is unpredictable.
