My Supplemental Essay

I have written and edited my supplemental essay for ED. The word limit is 500 but I am at 584 right now. How much more should I cut down to ?

Weren’t ED applications due November 1…?

Cut it down as much as you can without ruining the meaning of the piece until it is at 500 or fewer words. I couldn’t say exactly without reading it.

EDIT: Maybe some ED schools have a November 15 deadline? I’m sorry, someone correct me on this.

Would you like to take a look at my essay ?

Nah, My ED deadline is Nov 15.

If you’re finding yourself stuck at 584 (and it’s very good and coherent), and there is a solid word limit, I would suggest finding the two weakest sentences in your paper and eliminating them – otherwise you’ll just keep simplifying your word choice and actually hurt your essay.

I will take a look if you’d like the help…

^nns91, I’d love to, if you would feel comfortable. I have won a national writing medal and various other writing awards and am accustomed to editing papers for friends. I am a 2014er, though (although I promise I won’t copy your essay), so I understand if you don’t feel comfortable.

What is you guys’ emails so that I can send my essay to you guys ? Thank you for helping me.

I will PM it to you.

Thank you. Any more suggestion will be greatly appreciated considering the deadline is approaching

Students need to learn to be more succinct in their writing imo. Get to the point quicker. Keep only relevant words, phrases, and sentences. Cut everything else.

My UMaine supplement had a limit of 500 *characters. Needless to say I was not very detailed

84 words over is really really pushing it. I’d try to get it under 520 if possible.

I have been working on my essay and was able to reduced to 553. Am I fine now ? Or do I have still have to cut down further ?

If the prompt is:“Students, faculty, and staff all participate in the exchange of ideas in an atmosphere characterized by high achievement and a sense of balance. The Admissions Committee is eager to learn more about you and your school community. Reflecting on your own educational experiences, how have you prepared yourself to enter an academic environment like Bowdoin’s ?”

And I write a story about one time I benefited from my balance. Will it fit this prompt ?

Now am I down to 528, any opinion ?

You should be fine with 528. They aren’t THAT hard on you…

Good thanks. How well do you guys think my essay fit the prompt ?
