NACAC list of colleges with openings is out

My college is on the list as well. My particular school is down about 5 fall deposits (we typically accept around 100 into the program). Overall Im hearing the college is down about 150 incoming fall students.

Washington and Lee is on the list for transfers.

In NJ there is a 10 State school block has just announced they would be looking for transfers and make it easier to transfer back to a NJ college, Of Note Rutgers the state flagship is not part of the group.

Whitman is on the list for both transfers and freshman. Kind of surprising to me as they had some kids with pretty stellar credentials reporting rejection letters on the class of 2024 thread for that school.

Washington university of St. Louis is still accepting transfers

One thing I never realized is that this list only includes the 1,200 colleges that are NACAC members…obviously I am slow on the uptake!

Today there are 729 schools on the list, so that’s out of 1,200. Wow.

@allyphoe Isn’t there a way to see what the newly added schools are? If so, can you share how to see that? TIA

I didn’t notice this yesterday, and it is not on the list today.

May 6 2020 update. There are currently three duplicate entries in the database. There’s also a mapping issue affecting 20 schools which makes it impossible to determine whether they have all of first-year admissions, housing, and financial aid. Unfortunately, 18 of those 20 mis-mapped schools were added between yesterday and today.

For-certain addition to the list:
University of Hawaii-Hilo HI

Maybe additions to the list:

Beloit College WI
Columbia College MO
Hampden-Sydney College VA
Johnson & Wales University - North Miami Campus FL
Kent State University OH
Loyola University Maryland MD
Manhattanville College NY
Marywood University PA
Nebraska Wesleyan University NE
Penn State PA
Russell Sage College NY
Saint Joseph’s University PA
St. Mary’s College of Maryland MD
St. Olaf College MN
SUNY Oneonta NY
The Catholic university of America DC
University of Nebraska-Lincoln NE
University of South Dakota SD

@Mwfan1921 There’s unfortunately no easy way to see the additions. I dump it into Excel, one screen at a time, move it back into table form, then use VLOOKUP to compare with the previous day’s file.

May 7 2020 update. All of the May 6 additions were okay.

Additions for today:

Central Washington University WA
East Stroudsburg University PA
Mansfield University PA
Millikin University IL
Syracuse University NY
The New School NY
Translyvania University KY
University of Puget Sound WA
Xavier University OH

We’re up to 612 schools accepting first-year applications, with housing and financial aid available.

Agnes Scott, Rhodes, and Whitman are fantastic LACs. I hope there is someone out there jumping at the opportunity to enroll.

@Mwfan1921 its not on the list. WashingtonU extended their transfer deadline but they’ve removed it from their page this week. Had a talk with them two days ago for my son.

St. Olaf and College of Wooster, too! No application fee for either.

Wooster sent my student an email saying they are waiving the teacher recommendation requirement, and they are still awarding merit money.

May 8 2020 update:

Adds:
Carroll College MT
Ferrum College VA

Possible adds (mapping issue weirdness):

Barry University FL
Colorado Mesa University CO
Harrisburg University of Science and Technology PA
McDaniel College MD
Michigan Technological University MI
Rivier University NH

Of the 1,257 US 4-year colleges and universities in the NACAC member directory, we’re up to 614 (or 620 with the possibles) accepting first-year students with housing and financial aid. Because the databases aren’t linked in any way, the numbers aren’t really directly comparable - there are some weird things like colleges within a university being listed as multiple entries on one list but not the other, for instance. But ballpark 50%.

Fordham, Marquette, Gonzaga, the various Loyola schools, et al??? Maybe the Jesuits (and the numerous other Catholic schools on this list} need to re-think their cost-of attendance.

I think some poaching has begun. My S20 has made some Facebook friends from the school he’s planning to attend. Last night, one of the kids mentioned that another highly regarded school that he turned down offered him more money to attend. No reason to doubt him.

Fast forward to this morning. My son has received two emails asking him if he’s interested in new opportunites. One school he turned down offered to reinstate his offer and look for more Merit/FA (Fordham). The other was somewhat of surprise. He looked at Indiana (Kelley) but didn’t apply. They asked if he was interested. Both are on the NACAC list.

I just shook my head and walked away. I’m pretty sure he’s sticking with the original plan.

Comparing the full NACAC member school listing with the “has openings” listing, there are 642 US-based 4 year schools on both lists and another 616 on the member list but not on the openings list. Schools on both lists have no obvious duplicate listings; the member list has some things like “5 schools that are actually all Auburn.”

Of note: Ferrum College, in Ferrum, VA, appears to have joined NACAC for the specific purpose of adding itself to the list. It did not appear on either list yesterday afternoon, and appeared on both with today’s update. That was something I did not expect.

I have a question.

UC Riverside is listed, but is NOT accepting freshman or transfers. There is financial aid and housing available. Why list then?

That is odd. If someone is interested in UCR, I would contact either frosh or transfer admissions and ask if there are any openings.

The schools add and edit their own listings, which are propagated to the public database daily without any attempt to determine whether the information is sensical. The person who maintains the database will remove duplicates and correct mapping issues (I know this because I tell them there’s an issue and the next day it’s fixed), but you also get a fair number of schools where the person responsible for the listing does not prioritize proofreading.

@allyphoe The next time you contact the database person, would you please ask him/her to move West Chester University from PW to PA (what state is PW?!). Thanks.
