Naked parties at northeast colleges

Has anyone heard of this? I read this in today’s Boston University newspaper (Thursday, 12/8). Here’s the beginning of the article:

Students strip for newest, nudest trend
Naked-themed parties hit Northeast colleges

You look down and realize you’re naked. Butt naked. Buck naked, in fact, in a roomful of people.

It’s the recurring nightmare and entrenched anxiety of many. But for some college students, it’s a Saturday night.

Naked parties - where guests disrobe on arrival - are becoming increasingly more popular at colleges across the Northeast, including parties at Brown, Columbia and Yale universities.

http://www.dailyfreepress.com/

And in the 70’s they called it streaking. What goes around comes around. :)

http://www.badfads.com/pages/events/streaking.html

Streaking was a great fad.

I have heard that Stanford gymnasts put on quite a show the night before the Stanford-Cal game.

At a number of NE colleges, students run naked in the snow (usually in January. But I have not heard of naked indoor parties before. When I was in college, we had panty raids. Not quite the same thing.

Marite…today they don’t even WEAR panties…it’s THONGS!

This all starts with the coed sleepovers in HS.

My number 1 law of intergenerational relations: Kids will always find a way to offend their parents. Whether it is music, clothes or behavior.

I know Wesleyan has a clothing-optional dorm (or at least it did the year my D applied).

And my D has mentioned that some theater groups sometimes have naked read-throughs to make everyone less self-conscious. I avoided asking for details on this one.

There was a naked party at Rice this fall. My S’s best friend is a fresh. there and was pretty freaked out by it. He said that he didn’t think that people would really be naked, but yes they were! He had invited his girlfriend who is in College Station. Needless to say, she had clothes on, that kind of thing doesn’t go on at A&M. His roommate wore a costume of a giant *****. Pretty special, hmm. But, reports were that it was a great party. I must be too old!!

I hope they bring their own towel

I have a hard enough time at parties where people ( generally women- but sometimes men too- hello the 70s are over! no more chains with chest hair!) are showing much more than I want to know about.
I think you would have to be pretty comfortable with your friends at the party. I have been to parties( long time ago- mostly) when “men” assume that if you have something slightly low cut- or otherwise revealing, it means you want them * now oh-baby*.

I would worry about my daughter going to a party like that-and running into someone who would take advantage of the situation.

I have heard of some parties where some are naked, but not everyone is-would save on clothing allowances I guess.
When I was that age ( and working) I bought a new outfit about every other week to wear to go out, I could have saved a lot of money!

I read somewhere that one of the Bush twins (the Yale one) used to attend those parties. They called them “salons” and sat around discussing current events, literature, etc…yea, right!

I noticed that there weren’t any photos accompanying the article…

No pockets to hold the cameras.

lol Well I suppose the photographer could have hung the camera around the neck.

You got me there. lol

While I can’t attest that the students attending these parties are all of similar mind, nudists and naturists have been getting together for clothing optional or unclothed parties for decades, and usually nothing more outrageous happens than someone spills a drink. It is completely possible to discuss current events at such parties. And yes, everyone does bring their own towel.

I think that cameras are usually not allowed at these things.

Yeah, but with cell phone cameras so common, I’m surpised that nude pictures of Barbara Bush (the Yale twin) didn’t turn up on the internet. Or maybe they did?

Perhaps, but I doubt that this is the raison d’etre of the formal gathering of bodies and parts;)

wesleyan has “clothing optional” parties.

and one of the more ‘interesting’ traditions at connecticut college- during the week before graduation, the seniors are locked in the college center with many many kegs of beer. around 1am, its time for the senior streak- running across campus. of course, not everyone participates, but there are enough who put on quite a show for the rest of the class. …
