Staff was limited and appeared to be busy. I only saw 2 staff members in the store. There was a long line for the one at register (mine does not have self checkouts). Rather than attempt to contact them, I didn’t buy the expired product.
Y’all made me go in to our empty Aldi today with my own bag. Left empty. Not a single thing I need that I couldn’t find of better quality and lower price elsewhere. I don’t think Aldi works here. I’ll let you know when it closes.
There’s a picture of my S as a teen, standing next to the Stanley Cup with a couple of Devils. In the picture, S is not touching the Cup, on the off chance he might become an NHL player. (Spoiler alert-- he didn’t).
Never been to aldi, H has and he’s not a fan, made it seem like home goods or Marshall’s, you don’t go in with a list. We have no bags here in NJ, I still forget to bring bags (even though I have tons since I get a weekly grocery store pickup). I miss plastic bags.
Nonsense. You could have def found many charcuterie items for those cute appetizers I know you make. Stuffed olives. Prosciutto. Cheeses similar (or the same!) as TJ’s. Their Specialty brand crackers.
Well Home Goods is my 2nd fav store in the world.
ETA….sorry @abasket I was typing this as you were typing Home Goods is one of your favorites!
Well…if we are including stores that get hype that we don’t understand…how about Home Goods? What is really needed was Bed Bath And Beyond where I could get things reliably for my kitchen and bath. I don’t need a store filled with kitchy decorative stuff, and no way to know what’s going to be there when you get there .
And the prices are not that terrific.
Agree, I do miss BB&B.
I never was a fan of BB&B—prices seemed inflated but they did have some nice clearance sales.
I like having a compact nylon bag in my purse. I prefer it over having to buy a bag every time. It folds flat and comes in its own pouch that has a snap. The logo that had been on it originally has peeled off long ago and now it’s just a bright green bag.
Oh, I used a small piece of ribbon to keep the pouch attached to the bag to the pouch or the pouch would have been lost years ago.
Our Aldi is a busy store. Although I mostly shop at other stores (because they have a wider selection of what I need) there are times when Aldi is more convenient, depending on what else I am doing that day in the area. The prices for what I buy are competitive.
I like their produce and dairy sections in particular, but sometimes I buy their seed based bread and certain paper goods. For a while they had frozen fried eggplant cutlets but I haven’t seen them for some months now. The self-checkout is a breeze; I bring my own bags. I have never had trouble with the locking carts, or with past-date foods.
They had some of these things, just not at the best prices/variety around, nothing I would buy. I make my own crackers.
No self checkout at our store, just one manned lane.
My mom used to love all of those stores, I did too until I realized I was an impulse shopper so no more, I get texts in friend groups asking who wants to go shopping. Then again I’m on Amazon looking for a confirmation dress for my dog (don’t ask, she had her barkmitzvah last year).
I haven’t ever been in a Home Goods store — don’t think we have any. I really have no interest in home decor—happy with our home as it is and no more space for “stuff.”
Home Goods is great for those times when I needed something that a Target or another store would not have like Japanese made rice bowls. I broke a couple of ours and needed a replacement. Surely enough, they had the bowls I needed! With the cats on them. For half the price of Amazon’s. Also a great selection of gift wrap for all occasions! I skip the “decor” crap though.
The Disney experience? I know some people love Disney, and go multiple times per year. If I lived in Florida and could go for less $$$ I would probably think it was worth it, but there are so many other places to go…
First class airfare for flights that aren’t very long. I admit I haven’t flown first class often, but the little extra leg room seats were enough for us, even when we flew 15 hours from Dallas to Auckland.
In many cases fancy/expensive hotels, especially when you are someplace where you’ll spend most of your time outdoors, and there are cheaper options nearby. (I get paying more for ski in/ski out, for example, or for oceanfront).
I’d rather save on flights and hotel and use the dollars for experiences and food.
For the record, not everyone shopping at Home Goods is looking for kitschy decor.
Bed pillows
Sheets
Area rugs at huge discounts
Lamps
Dog basics like toys, beds
Pots, pans, bakeware
Wrapping paper, excellent prices
I believe you mention shopping often at Marshall’s. Home Goods is in the TJMaxx, Marshall’s, Sierra Trading Post family.
My home IS my castle. It does not include decorative Knick knacks though - even though I shop HG on the regular.
+1 to the Disney experience being something I never got attracted to.
Also HomeSense which I think positions itself to be a bit higher end than Home Goods. One plaza near us has all the Maxx family stores in a row except TJ Maxx.
In some ways, I feel like an outsider.
Bombas socks: I don’t wear these in FL but have given them as gifts. This year, bought the slipper socks, which I do wear and grandson likes his.
Disney world: I miss going there. When son was young, I had a pass, so we went often, sometimes with the grandparents or friends.
We have aldis, sprouts, Whole Foods, Trader Joe’s. Fresh Market has the best parking lot, so that and Publix are my go to.
No heels ever. I do have a few Birks
No clothing with brand names obvious.
I gave away my Instapot and air fryer. I’m happy just having the Breville all in one on the counter, along with mixer and coffee pot.
I do appreciate good pots and pans. All-clad and Le Creuset. The latter replaced a pan that was too used.
I rarely eat out, but I have a fav deli and pizza place. I had my son’s rehearsal dinner in a Chicago pizza restaurant. Of course, they served a lot more than pizza for 100+ people.
Enough My dog wants to go outside.
Ah another thing…Birkenstocks. I guess they are fine for the clog folks, but I find them klutzy and frankly uncomfortable. Never saw the appeal in them.
