Name A Product You Don’t Get The Hype About

tangent alert: My D had cupcakes instead of a wedding cake. She’ allocated like 2.5 cupcakes per attendee. They served wonderful finger food at the post ceremony cocktail hour…then a great family style meal at the actual sit down portion. When it was time to get cupcakes you’d think those guests had been on a 48 hour water fast. A majority had scoped out which flavor(s) they wanted and made a B-line for the display. These were adults. It was a childfree wedding :). It looked like a swarm of locusts had come thru!

Calories don’t count at a wedding! I mean, it would be downright rude if I didn’t have wedding cake/cupcake, right?!

Me too! If there’s a gluten free bakery I definitely order more than I should because I feel the need to support them!

I have a glass kitchen table b/c it folds down (the oval ends rotate under in a half moon design) to become a square table to play bridge. Love, love, LOVE it! When we have meals on it we use placemats (don’t want to scratch the table) so no one is looking at anyone’s legs or feet.

I consider cupcakes to be a frosting delivery system which contradicts with their basic premise that you’re supposed to bite into them rather than use a fork. If they have the small amount of frosting necessary to eat them on the go without making a mess then they’re not worth eating. If they have enough frosting then they might as well be a slice of cake instead.

I have a rule: I never buy anything I can make more cheaply. I wouldn’t buy a $2 cupcake. But, I love to bake, so the reason I never buy cakes, pies, or pastries is because that would deprive me of the fun of making and sharing them.

When people ask me if I like football I reply no but I like people who like football. Thus I keep up with it enough to know if my husband and sons’ favorite teams have won or lost so I can throw that into conversations with them. Unfortunately my husband usually thinks that means I want an in depth analysis of the recent game and I have to suddenly have something urgent I need to take care of.

I cook, but don’t like baking, so I’ll pay (I did make flourless chocolate cake and pignoli cookies for Christmas because family dinners tend to be gluten free, we have excellent Italian bakeries but so expensive). When I go out to eat I like to order meals I don’t at home (like eggs Benedict, my go to brunch food with corned beef hash).

I love cupcakes. I will buy 1 cupcake instead of baking 24 since 1 is better for my diet.

I would eat those 24 fast!

Same here, so I don’t make sweets often, mostly for sharing/gifting/taking to gatherings. (But I may keep back a sample or two…)

My general preference (not a hard and fast rule though) is that I cook and bake from scratch when the result is more nutritious. There are plenty of ready-made foods that are easy and tasty but not so healthy… so I buy them (in moderation).

Still I do sometimes pay attention to food costs. So I do get the hype about $1.50 hot dog deal at Sam’s and Costco. About once a month, that will be our budget lunch while out shopping. But I rarely have hot dogs for a meal at home (unless when doing burgers and dogs on the grill for bbq with friends). And I don’t get the hype over pricey gourmet hot dogs at restaurants.

I have a hard time with expensive cookies. There’s a Crumbl at a nearby shopping center. I bought from them once shortly after they opened, to bring to niece’s dinner. They were SO sweet but fun to share. Wouldn’t buy them normally and haven’t returned. Their prices are crazy high, to me.

I was gifted Levain cookies recently. They were very good, but I’d never buy them for myself.

I don’t like overly sweet desserts. If sugar was all I wanted to taste, I’d lick a sugar cube. Cheaper. Way cheaper!

I get he hype over the pricey gourmet hot dogs IF the gourmet refers to the dog itself - not just the toppings. So a really good sausage with amazing toppings - yeah, I’ll take that. But if it’s just your average HOT DOG meat, then no.

Honestly, IMHO, it’s really hard to “over”-hype a cupcake. :joy:

Our glass table is great - seller left it with the house and have no question we would buy one again. (I never thought about looking at feet, but I have looked through it at toddlers who can walk under it (fun); some of our friends and family wear shoes that should be seen and appreciated) It is a large round pedestal type in our family room near a kitchen, yet not visually large since it’s glass. It can easily accommodate 7 without legs in the way or too many people on a side. It’s perfect for eating, cards, crafts, games, kids. Very easy to keep clean without worrying what’s on it, spilled on it, or using table pads. We do often use placemats or a table cloth, but not necessary.

I love football – college, pro, HS, flag. I love it all. In an attempt to avoid listening to news for the past few months I’ve started listening to college football podcasts so I’ve actually bought in on a deeper level than I ever have. Today, I watched three short podcasts about Junior Day at UT yesterday. I’m in so deep. :face_with_spiral_eyes:

Might be controversial but I don’t get the love of frosting. I like the cake but frosting doesn’t do anything for me it’s way too sweet. I will stand in line and pay for a gourmet donut or ice cream.
I prefer a cookie or a brownie if I’m buying a treat. I was also gifted Levain cookies and felt they were way too sweet.

You give me your frosting, I’ll give you my cake. Unless it’s CARROT CAKE. I need cake to be very moist.
