Name A Product You Don’t Get The Hype About

I was feeling generous

Yes…but FWIW Macys sales are great if you play it right…$5 tees, $15 gym pants, etc.

How about bottled water in the vast majority of the US where the tap water is safe to drink?

Macy’s seemed to be a store where the majority of stuff was “__% off”, and if what you want was not, wait a few weeks for it to be discounted significantly.

We don’t drink bottled water on a regular basis for environmental reasons, but I use a brita for my tap water and ice machine, our water is safe but doesn’t taste good. I use a glass, my kids have their giant water bottles, my husband with no taste buds drinks tap. When my kids were babies I made their bottles with powdered formula and tap water.

Yes, the hype about Stanley Tucci is well deserved. He deserves even more hype!

The Instapot actually bills itself as a multitask tool and can be used as a pressure cooker and a slow-cooker. I used to work at a kitchen/lifestyle store and sold hundreds.

I have one - it replaced my old stove-top pressure cooker. I use it much more often than I used the traditional pressure cooker but still prefer my traditional slow-cooker over the Instapot.

You can buy an accessory to use it as an air-fryer but I have no experience using it that way.

I like a lot of the items people don’t get. Love my Hokas, my Uggs, my Apple Watch, love driving a higher end car. I’m picky about socks and only buy Smartwool.
I don’t get the hype for Dunkin Donuts (it didn’t last in my town so I guess others felt the same). In and out burger is okay but not worth waiting in the line. Don’t understand the Stanley cup hype.

I was going to say Boba, but @momofboiler1 beat me to it in Post #10. Chewy balls of starch and sugar with little to no nutritional value. I don’t get it.

The other product or new-ish fad I don’t get is ramen-serving restaurants. The spouse and I went out to lunch on Saturday and we saw a line down the street of people who were waiting for tables in a ramen restaurant. Again, noodles, little to no nutritional value, gobs of salt, and people were waiting in a long line for it. :man_shrugging:

Heated steering wheel is also pretty awesome!

Here in Phoenix what I’ve been pining for is ventilated and cooled seats. I’m finally getting that feature in my next car.

Miso soba (buckwheat noodles) soup with chicken or tofu is quite tasty and nutritious. I wouldn’t wait in line for it though. Does have a lot of salt in it, like many restaurant foods.

Air fryers - they are little more than a miniature convection oven and don’t cook enough food for more than 1 person. Ours was used twice and promptly retired to the space above the fridge (where appliances go to die). Lulu lemon and Athleta workout gear. In and out burger (no different than many fast food burgers - and very, very salty).

Since I live in a one-person household, my little air fryer is great. And it’s been sufficient when I have one guest for a meal.

Ditto for the poster mentioning that a fancy toaster-convection oven is extremely useful. I sprang for a Breville on sale for $200 and I can’t remember the last time I used my oven. This is especially wonderful when it’s hot outside and I don’t have to turn on the AC because the stove oven heats up the kitchen.

My 3 mile town has 3 Dunkin’s, 2 Starbucks, and at least a half dozen independent coffee shops.

My Insta Pot has slow cooker setting.

I want to start a “counterpoint” thread. Off shoot of this one where you “counterpoint” another person’s “why should I invest in this product”.
