Name one thing you will do, that you’ve been putting off, after we are past Covid.

Go downtown to Chicago, sit in a rooftop bar, and have a margarita. Then head to a concert at our favorite wine bar.

Next day, book some trips so D21 can see some colleges!

Weirdly almost happy that our youngest couldn’t get leave to see us for Christmas so we went and visited him the first week of January - along with our older son who decided to spend an extra week with us. Haven’t seen either of them since. Also grateful that I made time to go see the Turner show in Mystic CT in late January and met up with a cousin I hadn’t seen in over 20 years. Had a great time - it was the last trip we took. Little did we know…

See my sons/DiL
See my parents
See my inlaws
See my brothers
See my nieces

Go to a grocery store because I forgot something instead of making omelets again.

Go to a bookstore

Get a haircut

Go to the dentist

Take DH to physical therapy

Go to church

I booked an Alaskan cruise for September 2022. Hopefully things get sorted out by then. I had to cancel a planned RunDisney 5k and 10k in November so hopefully I will get to do that one day as well.

I am dying to go to the movies. I miss that popcorn.

Haircut, visit son2, spin class.

We need a destination trip. Bahamas house reserved for July, but I’d like to go somewhere more exotic. Patagonia?

I’d like to spend a weekend in NYC again.

Like everyone, I want to travel. Also have a stress free day where I don’t have to think about the virus and who might be infecting whom.

But what I am putting off is getting my tooth fixed. Long before covid, my dentist had a stroke right before I needed a filling. I think his temp messed up my neighboring tooth during the process because I haven’t been able to eat right on that side since. I went back and they took x-rays and poked around and couldn’t find anything. I put off doing anything more because I despise the dentist anyway and I can eat fine on the other side or by being careful in general. But I know it needs fixing and planned to go elsewhere. Then covid hit, so there’s my excuse to put it off longer. So once it is over, I will figure out what’s wrong and what to do about it.

Travel to see my granddaughter, my son and DIL, and stay in their brand new house.

Travel to see my other son and his wife.

Travel to see my sister.

Finally have the big reunion with our former nanny and the entire family that we were supposed to have had this past Easter.

Entertain! Have some major dinner parties on our wonderful, spacious deck.

Probably travel to Europe. I’ve never been, and planned it for husband’s 60th, in July. By the time COVID is over, it may be my 60th, and the plan is to go to New Zealand (never been there or Australia either).

Do you mean things we’ve put off because of Covid? Or things we’ve put off in the past and now realize we wish we had done while we had the chance?

I’ve been lucky. All my “got to do” things have focused on my house because we did spend a lot of time traveling pre-Covid. I’ve enjoyed staying home to some extent.

Time to tackle all those projects that had been put off (some for years!) So my floors are redone, I’ve been painting rooms, organizing–just a load of things. Looking forward to a party for the neighborhood when it’s time!

My dad fortunately is still in his home. He needed major help recently and my sister and I have been able to care for him which is a total blessing. He is a major social animal (and very independent)–if he was in a nursing home or someplace where we couldn’t care for him I don’t think he’d literally survive.

My aunt is in a retirement place which has been shut down to visitors by Covid but she by nature is a hermit and very happy with a pile of books. Crossed fingers there.

I never loved eating out much (because my husband is a GREAT cook) but do miss visiting different environments. It’ll come back I’m sure. It’s a blip.

My dad (98) said the other day (as I was lamenting lost time for so many)
“We missed years of our lives during the war (WW2.) That was time out from school, lives, jobs that was all put on hold because of national crisis. We did it then and we can do it now. It’ll be okay.”

This was supposed to be the year that we figured out the next stage in our lives, deciding where to downsize to nearer my daughter. I know it will be a time consuming process, and I want to get started. Checking out locations, looking at houses, etc. Zillow and google maps just don’t cut it.

I forgot to mention the plumber. Two drippy bathroom faucets, one occasionally drippy bathtub faucet, one very dead garbage disposal, one not-yet-dead dishwasher. The plumber gave me an estimate in February. I’m not ready to have someone working in the house just yet.

Get my mom’s ashes a plot and plan a memorial service.

Hug someone.

Get a pedicure.

Sing with friends. The lack of ability to sing with others has been my biggest social loss. I can have distanced outdoor dinners with friends, but I miss making music with others.

I’ll be happy when it is safe enough to meet in person for church. Currently we have a new pre-recorded youtube service made available each Sunday morning, including lovely music. It’s convenient, but not the same… and some of our older members don’t have an easy way to watch it. In the spring, we deferred Easter celebration until “the next time we meet in person”… and I’ve become to wonder if that will come before Christmas or not.

Travel to Europe again.

Hugs to all of you who haven’t seen their kids. I am blessed that mine are so near, and we can see them regularly.

As far as things that I haven’t done, it’s definitely the boring house repairs, including roof and solar, that we had planned. I also don’t want strangers in the house, so hoping the roof hangs on.

The other thing is retire, which I was going to do this summer, but we felt everything was too iffy in our lives to make that change this year. Sigh.

What I’d like that I miss but isn’t entirely new is travel again eventually, maybe just be happy to repeat our two favorite trips–Ireland and France–rather than trying to do new things.

Can’t wait to eat out–not even doing it outside.

But mostly not worry every moment of every day about everything.

Me too! I’m on the fence about if I feel safe going now or not. I really need this. Lol. And a massage.

Buy more life insurance.

Burning all masks

If we are talking something I haven’t done before…I’ve put off taking the plunge in redoing our kitchen. Now that I’ve been home and spend more time in it I am CRAVING that renovation!

Something not new but that I miss: Browsing. The ability to go to a small town or a favorite store and just browse, look, enjoy.
