This guy created quite a unique marriage proposal video:

Well, she looked like she liked it, which I suppose is all that matters.
Definitely not my cup of tea! I hate the whole concept of “best proposal in the world.” I hate the idea of all the other family members knowing before she did. I hate the spectacle of it all. I hate tgeir making it public.
Most of all, it is odd that the guy makes a 15 minute video ostensibly about her but she’s barely in it! Instead we have 15 mins of him on camera. It would have been much more romantic if he had stitched together glimpses of her. Also, there didn’t seem to be anything intimate about the video at all. It is not a very good video.
In sum, it’s not my idea of romantic but who care what I think. If his fiancee was moved by it, all the more power to them.
Proposals have gotten weird with photographers hired and the whole nine yards. I don’t even want to click on the link because I’m fearful that I will know the couple from what Nottelling says about it.
I did not have the patience to watch the entire video - it looked like same stuff repeated… Agree, if the girl liked it, he definitely knew his “audience,” and it was a successful “campaign.” (I would have asked Mr. B to fast forward to the important part about 2 minutes into watching
). Not sure the entire world needed to see what was supposed to be a private, romantic moment. Or maybe it was not meant to be private.
i hope they are happy together, but that kinda gives me the creeps.
I watched the first couple of minutes and was too bored to continue. I’m with you, notelling. I hate everything about it.
I like big/unique/memorable proposals.
I actually remember every single proposal that was ever directed at me, so I guess I would say they were all memorable!
Haha, point well taken
I think it’s preference. One of my co-workers, a really nice guy, doesn’t seem ostentatious or narcissistic, proposed to his girlfriend while they were scuba diving with sharks. I thought it was the most awesome thing ever!
Unique with a lot of thought and effort put into it would would be my preference, if I had a choice!
Seems like way too long to work up a proposal. It seems weird to me, too, when a lot of family members and friends are involved. But whatever works for them. I didn’t have patience to watch the whole thing, either.
The interesting question for me is how does something like this get 20 million views? It is, in all honesty, quite banal, only marginally charming. And there’s no vulnerability on display. The guy must be a marketing/ PR genius to turn it into a viral phenomena.
And I say this as someone who LOVES and understands the appeal of many viral videos. Charlie bit my finger? The kid channeling Madonna at his Bar Mitzvah? The twin toddlers babbling in their own language? Totally get how those go viral.
But this one? Can’t understand it. Would love to hear theories. PS Do 20 million views automatically equate to the ability to monetize for the videomaker? I wish I understood the internet economy better!
I’m sure he got a few clicks from bored CCers.
After taking a social media in marketing class, I am confident to say that 20M views will not make the guy rich. He needs a couple of million of followers for his youtube channel (which means new content uploaded regularly) to become a youtube sensation. That’s where the real money is. Stay tuned for corny, cheesy videos of their wedding, honeymoon, and so on.
I am going to say that this is a one hit wonder, and I am sticking with following my local celebrity, Henri the Existential Cat.
I had to skip ahead to the end. It seems rather weird that he spent a whole year making this. I mean, ask her already! Also, while it is a romantic gesture of sorts, it seems to me that it would be much more special to be private. Maybe some are into the big splashy shared marriage proposal, but I personally would prefer a private romantic one.
I don’t get it either. My daughter (18) showed it to me a couple of weeks ago. She thought it was so great and romantic. I found it boring and not romantic at all.
I loved it. To have someone ask me to marry them 365 plus times is wonderful. Not my video so I fast forwarded but I’m sure she watched it multiple times. I think it’s nice to have the family involved when the girl is so obviously going to say yes. It’s not like she would be totally surprised by the proposal and then it’s time to party!
Following up on my post #12 about my personal preference for a marriage proposal to be a private romantic one…
My husband did propose to me privately. However, I don’t think he remembered that there should be a ring for that. A few weeks later, during college spring break, he came to meet my parents (another state from where we lived) for the first time. During the visit, he gave me a diamond ring that had been one his mom had, in front of my parents. While it was nice and all, I did NOT find it romantic to get the ring in front of my parents and would have preferred that to be private and romantic. I realize that was not the proposal, but again, is perhaps why I prefer it to be a private romantic affair.
I wondered if he ever skipped some days and then did some fake ones.
I skipped thru to get towards the end.
Simple and elegant and classic (down on one knee with a ring) works just fine for me without all the rigamarole
OTOH, my sister’s husband did one of those proposals at a Blackhawks game up on the scoreboard – they both love hockey and it fits their personalities and he knew she’d love it, which she did. Not my style, but to each his / her own!
BTW I was sorting through some old papers recently and came across notes that my husband (then boyfriend) had sent my parents basically saying “I want to come down to your city to talk to you regarding my intentions re PG” (not those words, but that concept). It’s old fashioned, but it made me smile. It was very classy. I’m sure it will offend many on this board, the idea of talking to the girl’s parents, but I’m ok with it as a sign of respect.
It doesn’t offend me, if that’s what you wanted, PG - I think it’s great he was in tune with your wishes! Personally, I would not want the man to talk to my parents, but hopefully he would know that, if he knew me well enough to propose!
