National Buckeye Scholarship Notification--The Ohio State University

Well I did speak to my son’s admissions counselor on Friday and I most definitely understood that just because he met the minimum to compete for a merit scholarship (ie National buckeye) did NOT mean he would actually get a scholarship. She said OSU would award merit scholarships on a competitive basis until the money is gone. Good luck!!

For those who have received the National Buckeye scholarship, how soon after being accepted did you receive the scholarship notifications?

And, how was the scholarship communicated - snail mail, e-mail or on-line?

It came approx. 1 month after my son was accepted via regular mail.

Just received the national buckeye and trustees in the mail today (3.62 uw gpa and 1280 cr/m SAT). Good luck to those still awaiting scholarships!

I just got the National Buckeye Scholarship along with the Trustees scholarship! So all together, $14000 a year. Very grateful for the generous amount. Although, I’m still waiting to hear back from the Morrill Diversity program which would grant me more money if I get accepted. Decisions decisions!!

@longhorndreamer–Congrats!!! That is terrific news. I wrote back to you on another thread you started about “diversity” (or lack of) at OSU. If you do attend, I hope you love it as much as I did.

We are still waiting to hear from OSU on the scholarships for my son. I hope 3.7 GPA and 1320 SAT is enough. I realize that just because he qualifies for a scholarship does not mean he will actually get one.

My son was accepted in early December, has a 4.0 gpa, 1290 combined SAT, top 5 percent of his class, has his private pilot’s license, all Honors, AP and IB classes, and still has no merit scholarship notification. It is really incredible how competitive things have become. I called the admissions office yesterday and they had nothing to report. This is incredibly frustrating. OSU is his first choice, but other colleges have offered him a lot of merit aid. He did apply for the honors program. I am wondering if the applicants for honors go in a different pile and are only notified of merit once they make a decision of whether he made it into the honors program. I am searching for any reason why we have not heard.

Just got a call from my son - he received the National Buckeye Scholarship & the Trustee’s scholarship. He has a 31 ACT & 3.5 unweighted GPA (from a very competitive, highly ranked public school that does not rank the students but does provide rough cuts for where the gpa’s fall within the class) - good EC’s and leadership/work experience. We are SO excited! Makes OSU a reality for him now! Go Buckeyes!

Hope those also waiting get good news today, too!

@fluffygirl–I understand your frustration. OSU is way more competitive than years ago. . .when I attended.

I think a lot of students who meet the minimum requirements to be considered for Ohio State’s out of state merit scholarships are still waiting to hear back. The National Buckeye scholarship requires just for consideration “Those considered to rank in the top 40 percent of their graduating classes and have ACT composite scores of 28 or higher or combined SAT Critical Reading and Math scores of 1260 or higher.” (It does not say anything about GPA, just class rank, if your school ranks.) When I spoke with my son’s admissions counselor last week she said that just because my son qualifies to compete for an award does NOT mean he will actually get an award, but that OSU would award in order of merit until the money’s gone. I do think an order of merit is fair, but we are still really hoping too. Good luck!!

Just got the Buckeye and Trustee’s scholarships in the mail today! My acceptance letter was dated Dec. 13.
Stats:
28 ACT
3.58 UW
4.06 W
Major: Actuarial Science

Much grateful!

We also received word today! My daughter had a 28 ACT and a 3.86 with all Honors and AP classes. She is very involved as well and I do believe that is probably a key. Just to answer some of the other questions…our high school doesn’t rank, she was accepted to OSU before Thanksgiving. She has been accepted into the Scholars program. The scholarship info came in the mail. The Scholars info came via the portal into her email.

I do also think that the info about them being released in stages is probably accurate and more people will receive them as the kids actually make decisions. So keep the faith! Good luck!

My OOS son also received Trustee and National Buckeye today. He was accepted mid-December and the letter was dated Jan 21. We are going back to a Fisher admitted student day in February along with a few other Big 10 schools – this process does take time (and money) to finally commit to a school. Good luck to everyone. His stats are 29 ACT, 3.75 W GPA, state level varsity athlete, significant community service, 5 APs plus most honors classes.

This is extremely frustrating. I thought by applying EA he would be considered before people who applied later. Now I feel like he may be competing with people with equal stats that applied regular decision. One of the biggest issues for us is that my son will be an Aviation major. This means he will incur $12,000. to $15,000. in flight fees every year in addition to tuition and room and board. This could bring his total costs per year over $50,000. So nervous.

Yay! Got the National Buckeye Scholarship for Non-residents and the Trustees Scholarship! Anybody hear back from the honors program? Thanks and congratulations.

Hey friends!! I just read about The Ohio State University on a website and got to know that this has been added in the list of [big ten schools](http://www.ranker.com//list/all-big-ten-schools/sportsyeah). I have never been to this University but heard a lot about this. Please provide more information about this University!!

i was accepted really early in the process with a 27 ACT and GPA 3.7 to the business school. Retook DEC ACT and increased score to 28 composite and 30 Superscore. I inquired about the Buckeye scholarship and they said that you could expect to hear by mid-fed or until money runs out…so not sure if I start over - meaning Jan pile of applicants or will the update my record…Really hoping for the scholarship as I am OOS. Any feedback on the process would be greatly appreciated

PS is the notification always through the mail?

It did come via the good old US mail. Not sure what they do with the updated ACT scores, but If it helps my Daughter was accepted in November with similar stats. She did receive the National. Buckeye and Trustee just this week, and. I do think it was the first round of scholarships at that level. They do seem to be releasing them with the highest amounts given away earlier. Good luck. Hope that helps.

My son did receive the National Buckeye Scholarship today (via US mail)!! We are so very grateful. His stats are 3.7 GPA and 1320 SAT (CR/M). He was accepted Early Action in late Nov 2014. Good luck to all who are still waiting. Ohio State is a very likely choice now for us.

Received the National Buckeye Scholarship today via US mail. Yiipee!! 3.79 GPA and 33 ACT. Accepted Early Action in November. Good luck to everyone else.
