Can anyone comment on the cadence of scholarship notifications?
Is there a pattern to when these are being sent out?

they seem to follow about 3-4 weeks post-acceptance, and come only in the mail. Others have posted that they come in waves by scholarship type. My son was accepted in mid-December and received his OOS awards Jan 21, I think. He’s still waiting to hear about Scholars.
My Ds acceptance letter was date 1/24…hopefully we will hear some good new by next week.
We are going on a campus visit at the beginning of next week. I am thinking that stop by the financial aid office is in order.
@metalmonk28 - same with us in Illinois.
I know this forum is about scholarships but in our house we are moving on to housing decisions. Any insight on where freshman LAS computer science major (non engineer) should live?
@tootiredtocare–based on you post I will assume your son wouldn’t fit with the computer science engineers in the haverfield dorm? (I want my son to live in the engineering dorm for academic reasons) Maybe contact the housing office? I’m intrigued by the living learning communitues-- that many schools and osu has. If there is not a learning community for you son then I would recommend watching ohio states dorm videos and visiting if you can and then base the decision on what’s important to him–proximity to major classes, to gym, room style etc. There are 3 general dorm locations-- south north and west–and each have certain benefits. I know this didn’t s answer your question. Good luck.
Congrats on your decision! So I’m assuming you have ruled out UIUC out of your choices?
@novaproud: thanks for the input. I will suggest the haverfield dorm to him - not sure how he will feel about it. I plan to contact the housing office to see if we can visit some of the dorms when we go for an admitted student visit.
@metalmonk28: yes - older brother is an engineer at UIUC - son #2 fell in love with OSU on campus visit and really never looked back. I did make him apply to UIUC but he did so only to appease me.
Anyone who has got merit aid as RD?
My son received the National Buckeye Scholarship yesterday, with the letter dated 2/5/15.
He didn’t receive any other scholarship info in his letter. He was accepted on 1/9/15 from an EA application submitted 10/31. SAT 1330 (cr/math) 3.7 UW GPA
He qualifies for Provost or Trustees but apparently didn’t receive an award?
No worries, we are excited and the $12K makes OSU his destination!
Did any of you guys apply to the Ohio State RD and get the National Buckeye Scholarship?
@tootiredtocare --Just FYI. OSU is now building new dorms on north campus which are scheduled to be available in fall of 2015. There are pics (renderings) on osu’s housing site and they look very nice and modern. I visited osu’s north campus in January however and the buildings didn’t look very close to being complete. Good luck. We also plan to do an admitted student visit. Hope my son can make his final decision by then.
@novaproud - Do you know if there are concerns at OSU with supplemental housing the later you accept your admission? We are doing some accepted student visits during March and hope that will help my son make his final decision among great choices! On CC’s PSU and UMD pages, there is much mention of accepting early to be sure you don’t get stuck in supplemental housing but haven’t see that mentioned here.
@fallschurchmom–I have not seen anything on osu’s website either about how exactly housing is assigned. I have seen other universities that plainly say “first come, first served.” I did see on osu’s housing website that housing contracts would be sent out starting in mid march. Also we got an invite to attend an admitted student reception at the DC Omni hotel in mid march (2-4 on a Sunday) which may answer questions. If you are located in falls church VA (??) then maybe you could attend that??
Our admissions counselor sent this invite for the reception yesterday. Name is Sonja lewandowski–she covers DC region. Good luck!!
Yep, we are in Falls Church, VA…We got the postcard this week for the reception but unfortunately can’t make it as we will be heading up to Penn State for their admitted student session…as long as housing contracts don’t go out till March expect that we are safe till then! Ohio is our last visit on the “admitted tours” the weekend of 3/23…so hopefully all will be crystal clear for my son by that time! Looks like your child is all set on OSU…that is awesome. Best of Luck!
I’d like to bring this discussion back to the original topic…not sure why it got hijacked.
Has anyone that applied after November 1st received the National Buckeye Scholarship?
I am on campus right now and was told that the money was all allocated to applicants who applied by 11/1 and it would be highly unlikely for those that applied after 11/1 to get anything.
I am just looking of some real world data/confirmation.
@adkdad–No, I have not heard of anyone stating they applied AFTER the Early Application deadline and received the “NBS” (scholarship). I have seen this question asked before (on College Confidential) but have not seen a response that they “had” gotten the NBS in such a case. I did notice that a number of people responded to this thread with their stats (SAT or ACT) and a number of them received the NBS “at the cut off”–i.e. 28 ACT or 1280 SAT CR/M. My totally unofficial instincts tell me that the NBS $ was offered to many that “just qualified” to compete (i.e. 28 ACT or 1280 SAT) and I suspect no money will be left over. Good luck.
Not sure if its different this year, but DS applied reg. decision in 2013, we are OOS,and got accepted with both Nat. Buckeye and Trustees Scholarships. He is currently a Sophomore at THE OSU…DD also just got accepted, with both scholarships, but she did apply by the early deadline.
@tedysmom–Congrats!!! I am very happy I was wrong about the National Buckeye Scholarship (and applying after the Early Application deadline). Good luck to you. Go Bucks!!
So are transfers not eligible for this? I applied to the Engineerimg Department scholarships as an incoming transfer with a 3.96 and 48 credits, will I get similar money? I am out of state
