I just looked at ohio state’s admissions scholarship page and I can’t tell either if these scholarships apply to transfer students. I’d call your admissions counselor. The website says the admissions scholarships (like national buckeye) are for incoming “domestic freshmen” admitted to Columbus campus and that you need to be in top 40% and have 1260 SAT (CR/M) or 28ACT to compete. (Theres no actual GPA requirement) It also recommends that students apply by 1 Nov. I expect you’ve read that though. Good luck.
Oh, I forgot to mention an obvious fact that the National buckeye scholarship (and others that can be combined with it) are for out of state “domestic freshmen” admitted to the columbus campus. There are many other scholarships of course for in state students.
OSU should make Nov 1st their application deadline to align with the way the award scholarships. Doing that would certainly alleviate the workload on the Admissions personnel and the stress on RD applicants.
The only other school I know of that has a November 1 deadline for everybody is U of Florida. It seems to work well. Decisions to everybody went out on feb 13 but no merit aid scholarships have been issued by UF to anyone yet.
My Ds decision hinges on the National Buckeye scholarship…The Trustee would be icing on the cake.
Fingers and everything else are crossed as we wait until mid-March!
I received the National Buckeye Scholarship but nothing has shown up on the award summary on the application tracker. Do you have anything on your award summary?
metalmonk28 - how and when do you receive your scholarship notice? (And, when did you submit your application?)
Does anyone know if the money is out? Has anyone received the buckeye scholarship in the past few weeks? Thanks
Metalmonk–my son also received the NBS notice via letter in February. But still nothing about it on the financial aid portal.
@metalmonk-same here. DS received letter notifying him of NBS on 2Feb but portal not updated yet.
We’ve been in touch with a couple of people from OSU Admissions via e-mail today and they both said if you haven’t gotten notified yet, it is highly unlikely that you will.
I’m hoping someone can help me understand the scholarship process. When my son applied, he hit the button that said he’d like to be considered for Merit Scholarships. That’s all he did but I re-read the website and it looks like that’s enough. With his ACT of 32, he was given the Buckeye Scholarship but that was it. My dh found out about the others and wants ds to apply to see what else he can get (he’s now a freshman). BUT it sounds like many here received two scholarships automatically. I’m wondering why ds didn’t get one of the ither ones on top of the NBS. Any thoughts? Thanks!
(Sorry, I can’t delete my post but I called and found out the answer…even though my son’s highly competitive hs does not calculate class rank, OSU used some formula to give ds a class rank and used that to determine qualification for the other scholarships. Oh well!)
Which is his GPA @Pbrain?
@pbrain my S school did not rank either but fortunately their OSU calculation added a little beyond the Buckeye. But we also applied separately for the supplemental scholarships. this required an essay and an application. We have not heard yet about any of those. Did your DS apply for them? You can apply each year so not just for freshman.
