National College Match - 2009-2010

To know if you qualify for a fee waiver, you said that you have to come close to submitting. How close do you have to go?

Should I do the CSS Profile for all of the schools that I am applying to? Or just teh QB ones that I ranked?

And, on the CSS, all of the questions are asking me for information for the 2009 tax year…but my mom hasn’t filed her 1040 yet? (I thought she oculdn’t until January too…) Should I just put 2008 info?

is it possible to get both the CSS waiver from collegeboard and questbridge. I am thinking of ranking 8 colleges so i wont have to pay anything.

hi everyone.
will someone have a better chance matching to a college if they rank only 1 college, as opposed to 8 colleges?

make stickers/address labels on your printer.

Do the colleges that you ranked see what you ranked them as? If so, would this affect anything?

You need to completely finish the CSS/PROFILE to find out if you qualify for a fee waiver, but of course you do not actually have to submit because you will have to pay before everything is submitted. You need to use estimates for 2009, as it states in the directions.

From the CollegeBoard website, directly from the instructions page:

While you might be able to get both the fee waivers, I doubt you can use them both - I’m pretty sure the QuestBridge fee waiver is exactly the same as the CollegeBoard fee waiver, thus non-stackable (only the first six colleges plus the nine dollar fee). Also, for eight schools, it would cost you $32 if you just pay for the two not covered. QuestBridge has such a limited number of application fees, is there any way at all you can pay the $32? I know how you feel if you really can’t, but by taking the QB fee waiver for $32 or a little more, you’re bumping someone out of $105.

I have a question. Let’s say I’m a finalist but I’m not matched. I only rank two schools, Stanford and Yale. Rice and Chicago are also on my college list, but I am not ranking them. Could I use the QuestBridge regular decision process for those schools, even though I did not originally rank them? I ask because the QB application represents me well and I know that it can mean a lot for low-income students in the RD round.

I have a question. Is it possible to be a QB finalist if you do not select any matches? Do they look at your matches at all when selecting finalists?

I decided that the QB College Match was a poor deal, because you could not apply EA or ED anywhere else at all before the match process, and many of my college choices had EA programs that I had already sent my applications to. The chance of admission was better if I went EA directly, than through the match, AND it seems that in my income the scholarship amount will be the same or similar regardless. The QB finalist, or regular referral, would only be a good suppliment to my regular application. I went for the better odds, but I’m wondering if it will effect my QB finalist consideration if I don’t select any match schools via QB?

To applicannot.

Of course. You can RA all the QB schools whether you’re a QB finailst or not…simply have filed a QB application. QB will forward your QB papers to any school on thier list. Some want an additional application to go RA and some don’t need one, some will ask you to pay the app fee and some won’t. It’s all on the regular admission process page. It’s worthwhile applying RA to those that don’t need a seperate application and are also free…no cost, no hassle.

dzmcmaster,

That’s an awesome thing to know. Well it does actually cost $16 to send the CSS/PROFILE and then $10 to send the SAT scores, and then $20 if I have to send ANOTHER copy of my transcript, but in the end it’s a good deal if I can afford it. Thanks for the response. I also have the Common Application basically complete, so sending that would just be a matter of finishing the supplements for each of those schools. And I’m getting in the swing of writing essays. (Unfortunately, they’re starting to look formulaic. I’ve gotten comfortable with the scenario-bigger picture-conclusion-relate to scenario format, so I need to break out of that…)

Now that the college admissions process is really here, my list is making me so antsy. I have seven schools, but 2/7 of them are reaches (Stanford and Yale) and then 3/5 (of the remainder) are high matches because of low acceptances rates… aiyee! I keep thinking maybe I should add another match (Emory?) and safety/low match (Boston University?). I’m looking at about $28 for each additional application on top of a current cost of $70 or $90… but since I have an extra pay I have about $150 to move around…

Right now my list is:
Stanford (obviously a serious reach)
Yale (see above)
Rice (high match because of low acceptance rates)
WUStL (high match because of low acceptance rates)
Chicago (high match because of low acceptance rates)
GW (low match)
Pitt (safety, rolling)

I’m thinking of adding Boston University as a low match / safety, and then maybe Emory… I liked Emory but not nearly as much as the others… ugh. Anxiety sucks!

@applicannot: Wooww my list sounds totally mediocre in comparison to yours!

UPenn
Yale
Colgate
NYU
Boston University
Bentley
American
GW
SUNY Bing

My mom’s going insane and saying that she wants me to apply to at least 8 schools…so i have 9 :0

Money shouldn’t be too tight (i hope) since my mom is covering app fees and I’m covering collegeboard/ CSS fees.

Is anyone who’s ranking Emory in Questbridge also a Emory Scholar nominee? I’m just wondering the chances of being an Emory Scholar if I’m also applying for this scholarship…

does anyone know the answer?
will someone have a better chance matching to a college if they rank only 1 college, as opposed to 8 colleges?

^^^^^^^

No, completely the opposite. The more schools you rank, the better your chance that one of them will match you.

spiritualwitch, schools do NOT know which other schools that you ranked, and they do NOT know the order in which you ranked them.
They simply get your application, review it, and notify QB if they would like you for the Match Process.

thank you GA2012MOM!

so say that you become a finalist, send in everything that is required by nov.2, but don’t get matched. If you want QB to forward your application for RD to the schools, do you have to resend everything again or just the things that are missing? Do you also have to pay the application fee for each of the schools? I’m just worried since that would make my budget a little tight and I would rank less schools just in case.
