I was going to do the college match, but when i read the college match agreement, it says, “it is a violation of the regulation of this program to file an Early Decisio, single-choice, or multi-choice Early Action application elsewhere.”

i didn’t know this! well, i know that you can’t apply to early decision to other schools since it’s binding, but i didn’t know this includes early action as well! And worst, i already applied to two of my safety schools…
I am going to ask my councelor (she encouraged me to apply early action) and call Questbridge tomorrow. What should I do? I know I can still do the regular decision if I am selected as finalist, but I want to do the college match. My friend told me that I probably need to take my applications back, but this is going to look bad on my record. So, I am a little freaking out right now…

Tsay-
I suggest you contact the colleges you put in EA apps and ask them to change your app to regular decision, instead of withdrawing the application. Explain you are applying to a scholarship program which prohibits you from applying EA but that their school is one of your top choices and you would very much like to be considered for Reg Decision. You do not need to contact Questbridge since you can still correct your mistake with no harm done. BTW you are allowed to apply rolling decision.

Ju_Liaa, I think your list looks great. We have a lot of overlap, except I dropped AU because of the visit. I’m thinking about adding BU back on, but otherwise we seem to have similar tastes. My mom is sort of covering the app fees, in that she’ll be picking up the slack for the bills that I cannot pay that month… that extra paycheck of mine really needs to cover part of the electric bill, but mom can borrow money to pay it whereas I need the money for college application fees.

I really didn’t want to apply to more than 6. With QuestBridge, Yale was so easy that I couldn’t not apply, which gave me 7. I could do eight with BU, if I don’t get matched at Yale or Stanford. That would make eight, which is more than I’d like but whatever.

Thanks GA2012MOM! It was worrying me that somehow they would know and judge me on that, thinking that if I ranked that college lower than another college then I didn’t really want to go to that college.

QUESTION: If I sent out my score reports to one of my colleges when I took the test, do I have to send it again or could they just look it up in their records?

Hi all; My son also applied for QB last week and we are still concerning about the chance to be selected as finalist and to be matched with his dream college with an adjusted gross income of 52k. EFC can not be zero at all. It will be around 10k-13k. I am a single mom and my son is a single son. In this treat, I found that, even though my son is academically competitive (he is school class top, USA finalists for USAMO and an international science fair, has several leadership roles and school varsity), he is not financially competetive at all.
I know that, if you are selected as a QB finalist, you can’t apply EA or ED. In my son’s case, even though he is selected as a QB finalist, he has very very low chance to be matched to Princeton, Yale, Stanford & MIT (yes, these are his rank list). Am I right? Then, which one will give a higher chance to get in these schools? QB match or EA/ED?

Hm. I wonder if there would be a way that we could see the stats of the people who got matched last year. It’d be interesting and give all of us a realistic perspective on ranking colleges.

ALSO, “Of the 1,792 total QuestBridge finalists this year, 1,123 — or 63 percent — ranked Yale as one of their top eight choices, Jeremiah Quinlan, admissions director of outreach at Yale, said.”
And since only 19 made it, 1.7% acceptance rate?!?!

LASTLY, for the colleges that want the Common App, do we have to have separate essays, or can we copy and paste the Questbridge personal statement to the Common App essay - will they be considering both the Questbridge and the Common?

That is not necessarily true. Call the college and find out if it is on file. I sent George Washington my test scores last march. I called them to make sure they had them. The man said they probably wouldn’t have kept them because it was so long before application season. When he checked, he looked and saw that they had kept mine and put them on file for me. It never hurts to double check, and it might save you a lot of hassle.

@spiritual: No finalist status means that you are a finalist for QUESTBRIDGE as a program. Like you are a finalist for the Match round. Specific schools don’t have finalist status in the match round. It’s like…you’re matched or you aren’t…

I would like some input as to how many I should rank for QuestBridge. As of right now I have:
Princeton
Yale
MIT
Stanford

My GPA is 95.5 unweighted, SAT 2280, decent extracurriculars, most rigorous schedule this year, decent teacher and counselor recs, huge competitive school.

I’m wondering if I should tack on Columbia to my QuestBridge rankings. The thing about Columbia is that it is somewhat small acre-wise (squeezed tightly into a few NYC blocks) and located in New York (gah, I’ve lived there all my life, need to get out) and it’s binding. I am really aiming for top 5 colleges, and if I don’t get into my QB rankings, then the only other thing that I really want to go to during regular applications is Harvard, which based on statistics of other students accepted from my school, is a reach, but not entirely out of my league. Should I put down Columbia as #5? If I don’t get into HYPSM, then Columbia would be next on the list.

immortalix are you my twin? lololol, you totally took the words outta my mouth

What is the essay topic for columbia this year? I haven’t been able to get to the second part of the application without paying the application fee and I want to start my essay early.

spiritualwitch:
Write an essay which conveys to the reader a sense of who you are. Possible topics may include, but are not limited to, experiences which have shaped your life, the circumstances of your upbringing, your most meaningful intellectual achievement, the way you see the world - the people in it, events great and small, everyday life - or any personal theme which appeals to your imagination. Please remember that we are concerned not only with the substance of your prose but with your writing style as well. We prefer that you limit yourself to approximately 250-500 words (or 1-2 pages).

@Everyone: Wow that Columbia prompt is possibly the driest thing I’ve ever heard. Why can’t every school be as creative with their prompts at UChic? They actually make me WANT to write about something amazing.

thanks for the reply, i went to my councelor today, and apparently the schools i already applied are actually rolling decision, even though they refered as “early action”. That’s a huge relieve. well, i am still working on college match, which i am still debating whether or not to add more colleges since right now i only have six colleges. should i just add more colleges to gain my chance of being accepted?
