National College Match - 2009-2010

I looked on QB and they said that you don’t have to have a picture…it won’t affect anything whatsoever. It’s just so that if you get matched, they can put it in your profile as the 2010 National College Match recipients (you can see last year’s winners. Some had pics, others didn’t)

I looked at the article from Penn
[Gateways | Penn to decrease reliance on Questbridge partnership - News](http://media.www.dailypennsylvanian.com/media/storage/paper882/news/2009/09/23/News/Gateways.Penn.To.Decrease.Reliance.On.Questbridge.Partnership-3780122.shtml)

I think they’re doing this to scale back on their budget (what with the economy and all)…I hope other schools won’t be like this. “same students end up applying ED and RD anyway,” how will they know this if, as a QB finalist, you can’t apply ED anywhere else? If they’re talking about those who aren’t finalists but apply ED, then they can’t possibly match up the numbers, can they? Furthermore, when they discuss taking applicants who are low-income not associated with a particular program, what is the best way to gain diversity?

Kids who are truly low-income all over the nation have access to QB. They could decide to not do it (because it’s a LOT of work) even though I believe that low-income kids who do take the time to invest the amount of time and dedication that QB requires should shine forth in the admission process in terms of them wanting “diversity and proper representation from all levels of society.” It seems rather unfair for Penn to give off the message that “Oh, we don’t want to accept too many QB students because there are students who apply regular decision who is just as poor.” However, the common application for the regular decision takes less work than the QB application.

I think they want to scale back on the full scholarship that they have to give for those they accept, which is understandable given the times. This simply means that if you’re a finalist but don’t get matched, don’t even further your QB application for regular decision: apply through common app, since they’re now in the mindset (and psychological factors can affect the admissions process) to not accept that many QB applicants. They’re obviously very serious about this, seeing as how it’s important enough to be on “The Daily Pennsylvanian.”

I hope other schools won’t be like this…

One more thing in my “little rant”: The QB application is for the purpose of facilitating admissions into colleges because it highlights the obstacles you have undergone, not to hinder your admission chances. I hate for this to turn into: “Oh, you’re a Questbridger. We’re going to look with skepticism now because we don’t want that many QBers” Sigh. This really depresses me.

Here’s my rant: We were puzzled about one aspect of the online transcript of courses and record of grade point averages, even after reading the fine FAQ, and asked a question about it. The answer came back primarily saying “read the FAQ” (helpfully providing direct links), although it did add one bit of nuance that did a lot to resolve our question. The online high school record form really fits much better for students who have only attended one high school.

Good luck to all of you.

:(

Since Penn seems to be backing down…

Should I rank Penn in CollegeMatch, or go ED? (Assuming I become a finalist and that Penn is my #1 choice…)

28% Penn ED admit rate is hard to beat… and the admit rate for Penn CollegeMatch is probably like 1% haha

@tokenadult: Where can i find the picture specifications on the site?

@everyone: Wait if you become a finalist for QuestBridge but want to do ED to one of the partner schools (not the match), can you do that and still qualify for QuestBridge RD?

I didn’t know that you could forgo the Match and apply RD instead flyingllama…

How do I go about obtaining an OFFICIAL SAT SCORE REPORT? Do I have to send it online, or is there a way I can print out a hard-copy?

Sorry, one more question - Can I use SCORE CHOICE for QB even if the specific schools which I’m ranking don’t honor it?

How many of you can “view” your School Profiles after they’ve been faxed on your QB accounts? For some reason i can only view my transcript and unofficial SAT score report :/

Julia, can I ask how you sent your “official” score reports? online? fax?

@Powerbomb: Questbridge doesn’t require that you send “official” score reports. You just go to the page where it has all your scores, print it, and send it with your transcript. That’s what i did anyways :/

Pretty sure everyone else did the same…

I believe you can, flyingllama.

Ju_liaa,
I can’t view my School Profile either. I think it’s considered as part of the recommendation.

@What if I don’t want QB to see a particular score? I thought I could do Score Choice with questbridge.

@muffinish: Yeah but it doesn’t say that my GC has her recommendation completed either  I know she sent it…

Does anyone know what QB’s phone number is? This could get much much worse if i don’t make sure that they’ve gotten everything my counselor sent.

@Ju_liaa
Here is the page with the phone numbers.
[QuestBridge: Contact Us](http://www.questbridge.org/about/contact.html)

Thank you so much!

Ju_lia: I’m pretty sure that you can opt out of CollegeMatch, apply ED to some school, and still use Questbridge for RD.

Anybody want to confirm?

Also, anybody have opinions on Penn ED vs Penn CollegeMatch? The difference in admissions rates are like 28% vs 1% lol…

Yeah, if you don’t make finalist or if you don’t rank any for the match round. You really cannot know these things ahead of time: their numbers might change significantly this year. Also, there are a million super subjective variables. Your best bet, in my mind, is to apply through QB. Hands down, you will have better chances. You are giving them more information, better information, and are put in a selected group of applicants that colleges are actively recruiting. Just my humble opinion.

@alexandraftizmor: Yeah if i were considering ED for any other schools i would do the match, but i really want Penn! I’m just really stuck on whether i should forgo the match and apply ED to Penn, or just rank it first among my other schools and somehow let them know that they’ve been ranked first >.<
