@Mom2aphysicsgeek What are Cobb and TX means again? Can you elaborate your comment? Thanks.
Cobb is in Georgia - just thought it was interesting that the press release from the school district and the newspaper article differed by the # of students in Cobb county taking the test (3233 vs 6200) and the total scores of the top 3 schools. The newspaper had almost 3000 more 11th graders taking the test and the top county score almost 100 points lower than the school district report
@speed2019âŠour GC said she hasnât gotten anything. No updates at all. I have emailed the Principal now. I asked him if he has gotten anything. I will post back what he says.
I noticed that mean was different from the Cobb report.
http://www.cobbk12.org/news/2016/PSAT2015.pdf
10th graders 931 vs 932
11th graders 1008 vs 1009
Seems trivial to me, but they are reporting different means.
I emailed our GC (Northern CA) and unfortunately she gave me no information at all. She said she is also very curious about the cutoffs but hasnât got time to analyze the scores yet and hoping to analyze soon. Most schools my S is targeting wonât give anything for NMFs, but I thought I can provide more accurate information to this group rather than the scores I heard from S. Sorry folks!
I emailed my DS school GC and got the following information

Hope this will help for some calculations
@RightDirection, adding up Nation 9/10/11 - I get 3.8M. Seems quite short of the 4M number CB keeps referring to.
Georgia had 33,430 Juniors take the test in 2014. Decreased to 31,871 this year.
Big drop from 104K sophomores who take it. Guessing sophomore year is required and junior year is not. So presumably, the juniors taking it are the higher achieving students.
Compared to Cobb County data, totals for 11th graders off by a single point on the TS at 1010. Which school is your daughter from? Do you have SI distributions of top 5-10 students? Here is list of SF from Forsyth county in 2015. http://www.forsythnews.com/archives/28184/
Is this another sign that actual test takers outperformed the research sample? On p. 9 of 2015 Understanding, the Mean for Math for 11th Grade Users is 498 and for EBRW itâs 489.
@RightDirection From your GC data the average score of Forsyth county 1141 is even more than the COBB county., This is another actual data from GA, everyone, what does this mean for GA cutoff.
@RightDirection, those stats didnât include 8th graders. If 8th graders are another 200K, then could reach 4M.
Averages tells us little. Schools such as Walton or Wheeler in Cobb County far exceeds schools from Forsyth. Perhaps those 2 schools walks out with all the cake and cream and sprinklings!
@Speedy2019 The 3.8 would be the national number. I would assume that some take it internationally, plus, I was reading an article today about seniors taking the PSAT in some states (at least NJ) because it is one of the tests that can qualify seniors for graduation. It wouldnât take much to push that number over 4 million.
If this national average is correct, then it is higher that the sample group that they used for the National User Percentile. This is what is on the score reports for the Total Score: âThe average score for the 11th grade College Board PSAT/NMSQT typical group is 987.â
Right - @candjsdad â I reported that a number of pages ago - actual natural average is higher than what is reported on students score reports. Thatâs in part why I think the GCâs can get some real info thatâs helpful - to get a sense of how their students performed compared to the past and taking into account whether they likely have NMSFs now compared to recent years based on estimated cut offs and of course to the state and national mean as well.
Anyone visiting Testmaster in Texas and trying to get more details, Bill and Michael may talk more in person than committing on the website! My attempt to get more information from our schools has yielded nothing, I have been directed to the Admin and sent my query again. I have heard of higher scores than SI222 since then, of one 1520, few 1500. It still means not much as this school would still get 50+ NMSF anyway.
@Speedy2019 from 2915 - Thank you! Appreciate the vote of confidence and the good advice. She has decided to sit the March exam as long as her schedule doesnât get too crazy beforehand.
I contacted PrepScholar this afternoon and asked them about PSAT state cutoff scores they and others have provided in light of reports that CB is off on their user percentiles and SI percentiles, and on anecdotes that seem to indicate higher PSAT scores than originally projected. Iâll let you know when they provide a response and their take on this.
@VABogart â Thanks for reaching out to them - hopefully youâll get an informative response - hope springs eternal!
@OHToCollege - I agree with your post #2931. Forsyth Countyâs higher PSAT average is probably due to a more uniform student demographics. Cobb county has South Cobb.
I want to see the top 100 scores from Northview, Chattahoochee, Johns Creek, Alpharetta, GSMST and Westminster of Atlanta. If we can get these schoolsâ data, we can be more certain with predictions.
@SLparent Crusoemom NH 1140 is an SI of 218 (740 Rdg-Wrt/700 Math)
