National Merit Cutoff Predictions Class of 2017

Correct @saillakeerie. The SFs are the top 1% in each state, so will vary by each state’s test scores.

@CA1543 I just checked a couple of other likely forums. I don’t see any other National Merit conversation. Just us crazy people here.

If you get a letter in the next couple of days, the tears can probably start flowing with joy before you open it. If you don’t get a letter when this group starts announcing they are getting letters in, in your state, celebrate that you or your child is a NM commensurate.

@Frankmeister - yes, anything between 209 and each state’s individual NMSF score will be commended.

But keep in mind, the letters are ONLY going to GCs (or homeschool principals - i.e. the homeschool parents). The masses will not get notified until after 9/14.

@Frankmeister Only school principals receive the letters. Homeschoolers get letters b/c they are considered that student’s principal. But otherwise no one will be getting a letter.

That’s true. I have tunnel vision sometimes. I am a homeschool parent in Texas.

Home schooler in taxas. Did you check mail today

Did you check mail today

I’m a homeschooler in CA with a 228, watching the mail. Is 228 the highest score for the PSAT this year? I was sick on the PSAT date and used my SAT score to qualify instead.

Also good luck to everyone! This is a crazy process

Boy this is fun! @Harvardgirl21, 228 is max score, and if your home-schooler does not get a letter, none of us have any hope!

Of course, there can be a black swan event and more than 2100 CA students scored a 228! That would exceed the slots NMSC has available for CA. They would have a conundrum on their hands, wouldn’t they?

@Harvardgirl21 yes 228 was highest PSAT score. Grats on NMSF.

Not yet. Mail runs around 5 central.

@flatKansas @OHToCollege Thank you!! Still watching the mail like crazy. I’ll let you all know when I receive the letter and if I can find out what the CA cutoff score is.

@Harvardgirl21 - congratulations to your daughter. You are not going to be much help to this forum as your daughter already sits at the top of the heap. Barring the date on which letters arrive to CA prospects, SI isn’t going to be useful.

@Harvardgirl21 - I’m curious - how did they create a selection index from an SAT score? If they used the same method for determining the Selection Index then you would have a maximum score above 228. So my sons both got a 223 Selection Index on the PSAT, but they had a 230 & 231 if you calculated a Selection Index from their SAT scores. If that is how it works then I would recommend to everyone that they become deathly ill for the PSAT and take the SAT instead.

A few months ago, I got a letter in the mail from Oklahoma University many months after taking the PSAT. It was about their national merit finalist scholarship, and it said in bold 128,000. Did any of y’all get that? 215 Alabama

@plopsun

I assume you mean $$$?

The OU website says $124,000, but close enough!

We’re 215 in Alabama as well, and I am checking this thread more than I’d like to admit.

Anyone in Texas pleas
