It’s possible that colleges have a copy of The Magic Book. Although not clear when that comes out.
Colleges probably still have the same mailing list of kids with scores > X that they have been using since last winter.
If every college got a legit list of semifinalists early, that stuff would leak all over.
Still waiting!
We got that same mailing this week and I so hoped it meant something! That one was unusual in that it was specifically only about the Honor College and the benefit for National Merit SF.
I meant the one @deltea received
Sunday is my favorite day of the week. Do you want to no why Dudley… No Post on Sunday…Right you are Harry. NO post on Sunday… HOPING for Owl delivery in Utah.
I wouldn’t read too much into the college mail. S15 was a NMF and a NM Scholar and did not receive any mail from any colleges. S17 is on the bubble for our state. My guess is that he won’t make the cut, but I am still hoping the Owl will arrive (we homeschool).
@nutmeg_shippy …yes, I have been off the computer a lot today. Sinus infection got the best of me. I have been trying to reply to people as much as my phone will let me. Good Luck to everyone…I really hope that Texas cutoff is way less than 221. Finger crossed and waiting for Mondays mail. Again…Good Luck everyone!!!
Feel better @Tgirlfriend – sorry to hear about your sinus infection. The mail seems slow to get out there. A 221 in Texas would be above Testmasters and Compass – so hopefully we’ll get lower confirming scores next week! Fingers crossed.
Add me to the list of people that are sure the colleges do NOT have the list. If they did have it, presumably they’d be subject to the “do not publish” date that everyone else has - and so couldn’t send mail based on it.
Guess we just have to wait until Monday. At least Monday we’ll start to get some real data presumably…
Re 5823. @mamelot. - thank you. I am following along here with anticipation for students I work with. In fairness, s#2, who got the $2k/yr may have also gotten his full tuition scholarship in part because he was a NMF. Well let’s say it probably didn’t hurt. Good luck to everyone.
Good luck to everyone! We won’t be waiting. It would be so nice to use SAT instead :D. Too bad D17’s PSAT score was not great AND we are in NJ… At least now that I know the significance of PSAT and S20 will be better prepared.
@CA1543 thank you. If I hear anything I will be sure let everyone here know.
My S missed the cut by one point last year and he got NMSF mail from colleges like crazy in the weeks leading up to press release date. The schools don’t know cutoffs.
@mnpapa29 - Thank you! I’m glad I could help!
Aww Man @gettingschooled. My son is on the bubble, but we got the U of H mail and email this week. I was hoping it might mean something, but I guess not.
Sorry, we got mail and a personal phone call to our home number, mentioning the National Merit Scholarship. Not an email.
Congrats to those who recently made it as NMSF.
From MD here, and waiting to find out MD SI. Son’s SI is 222.
S17’s friend (who is on the bubble) received a call on Friday with an offer of half tuition scholarship based on PSAT score. It’s clear the woman didn’t know exactly what his score was though because she told him if his score were above a certain number (actual score not SI), the amount would be above half tuition to as much as full tuition. She didn’t ask him to confirm the score or confirm if he was above the score she cited that would push him above 50% tuition scholarship. She said a letter outlining the offer was being mailed. It’s a small private liberal arts school (he’s a STEM kid). He’d never heard of the school but after quick google search knew it was not a fit; they offered no math or science majors majors.
@KCEdition what did your daughter score to get commended scholar? I also live in Missouri and have heard nothing yet, but my school is not proactive in these sort of things so I’ve been left in the dark on this a lot of the time
