National Merit Cutoff Predictions Class of 2017

All those who scored at least a 209 SI and don’t get nmsf will be commended scholars. That number doesn’t change by state.

@Runnergirl1226 I’m also in mIssouri with a very borderline score of 213. What do you have?

@superbowser12 I scored a 212…so I’m right at the edge like you

So I’ve been (over)thinking. What if colleges like OU are able to essentially duplicate the NMSC process to figure out which students to target, i.e, request X top PSAT scorers in say Kentucky?

would you mind posting a link to this blog? I am a student in Kentucky awaiting cutoff scores anxiously.

@itsgettingreal17 then someone would have leaked the nascent NMSF values by New Years

I suspect these schools like OU don’t actually know what each individual got on the PSAT, but buy a list from CB that is “everyone over 200” or whatever.

My son came home this summer with an interesting OU story. He went to a summer program with a lot of people from Missouri and they were discussing scores. Two boys had 216’s. One said that he was sure he would make it, because when he called and talked with OU they told him he would need a 213 in Missouri. I wonder how they came up with that number? Missouri has been 209 the past two years. I suspect they are going from the same online sources we’ve seen.

That’s interesting. Does anyone know what the old 209 concords to on the original preliminary concordance tables? They might be going off of those.

Update to #5867: Just pulled out the preliminary tables from under a pile of PSAT/SAT stuff. Will be very happy to clear all these papers out in a few weeks!

Anyway, a quick concordance: old 209 concords to a 1420. Breaking that down the simplest way would be a 710 on EBRW and a 710 on Math. That’s a 71*2 + 71 which is a 213. Guessing that’s what OU did. Art’s prediction is 212-216 with a 214 midpoint so around the same. 216 “should” be safe but no one will know for sure till the news is out (hopefully this week!).

Anyone else notice that Bill and Michael at Testmasters just seemed to disappear after posting the Texas data? hmm

After the commended number of 209 was released they basically said their prediction model was holding up well and no need for updates. Read main content and comments:

@itsgettingreal17

edit/update: at least they “say” they are Bill and Michael.

Colleges definitely don’t have “THE” list. DS16 got several solicitations last year referencing NMSF, but he missed it by 2 points.

I am just reading the comments everyday and watching the mailbox. This has been an amazingly long and informative thread. There are a lot of great, involved parents out there and in here.

We to are waiting for the mail to arrive. I will feel better when we just get the letter at the school. Hopefully today will be the day. Our mail arrives at the school around 11:30 according to our principal. He is going to text me if he sees anything. Good luck to everyone!!!

Today should be a newsworthy day. Fingers crossed for everyone this week and next!

@Tgirlfriend, are you from TX? if so , can you pls share your SI?, My S in TX with SI 220— waiting

Good luck to everyone this week!

Hopefully we’ll get a lot more news today – if some can reach out to their GCs that would be great – looking of course for lowest SI’s in each state that are NMSFs! But all reports back are welcome - home schoolers hopefully will get more letters today. Good luck to everyone.

@cowboy1999 …Yes we are in Texas with a SI of 221. Good luck to you and your S. I will post if our school gets anything today. Are you in public school or home school?

@Tgirlfriend . Thank you. We are in public school
