I’m going to try to stay off CC until lunchtime. Hoping for good news when I check back in. Good luck everyone!
Good luck to everyone today! Unfortunately I’m going to be on a bus for most of it…
@Tgirlfriend and @cowboy1999 - Also waiting in TX with DD score of 221. Our public school tends to be on the slow side to release any information about NM, so I’m hoping to hear info here. Good luck to you too!
What we really need is confirmation from the lower end of the SI ranges (take Art at Compass’s predictions). 221 in TX doesn’t help us, one can safely assume they are SF. Instead, we need that 218 at TX to confirm or deny their SF status.
I wonder why NMSC won’t publish these, what’s there to hide? Also, what’s up with the state CB reports, why won’t they release those?
@OHToCollege …I wish I was as sure as you are about a SI of 221 in Texas. I will be glad when the letters come and it is a for sure thing.
@OHToCollege Agree! High scores aren’t particularly helpful. For TX, need a 218 or 219 to receive a letter.
Who all has a 218 or 219 in Texas? Please let us know if you get anything in the mail.
@OHToCollege CB has ceased publishing the state reports because “it has already provided that info. to the GC’s etc.” Shows you who their real clients are!
And NMSC told me that they will provide cut-off info. on the phone beginning the Release Date so if you don’t know your state’s cut-off by then you can call them. They don’t publish anything because they don’t want to encourage “comparisons between states”. From the horse’s mouth.
Ohio Semi Finalist in at 217
This was posted today on the score thread (http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/national-merit-scholarships/1914817-class-of-2017-nmsf-nmf-qualifying-scores.html#latest)
Thanks @JL1010C- Ohio at 217 matches Art’s prediction!!
Well, notification has been received at our school, but the GC refused to tell me anything until the release date. She said there was an envelope on the principal’s desk marked “confidential until 9/14” so she is unable to share anything until then. I am unclear whether she saw only the envelope, or whether she saw the letter and either took the release date to mean notification to students and families or didn’t see S’s name so she couldn’t tell me as a member of the public.
@IABooks…I am sorry but that is just crap! I would be talking to the principal first hand.
wow @IABooks - thanks for sharing but so sorry the wait is so long. Wonder what NMSC told the schools - thought that communicating to students/parents who made it was fine.
Thanks @mtrosemom! I forgot about checking the actual score thread
@JL1010C - congratulations! Are you a home-schooler?
Thanks @JL1010C. Congrats! Every moment is being anxious for parent with D218 in IL. OH was 215 like IL last year. I am hoping IL also end up with a cut off of 217 this year as I believe more bigger states will have odd number cut-off given the fact odd number scoring was way less than even number scorers based on various postings I have seen…
The school counselor is responding but she is deferring the question to another person who told they won’t get this information from NM until middle of September!
PSA - @JL1010C registered today and has exactly 1 post with no followup posts yet. Be skeptical of all newly registered users today.
S is on it. If he can catch the principal himself, I think that’s the best route. Not sure if that will happen today. Our GC is not known for accurate or helpful information, so I’m not surprised.
But the good news is that the end is near. Good luck to everyone!
no one can safeguard against every (or even most) bogus posts but it’s quite reasonable to think that folks are signing up to CC in order to report their scores? Just a thought.
If you are reporting in, new/old or whatever, please indicate where the score came from - letter to school or home, for instance. It would be helpful to add a few words (got our letter over the weekend we are homeschoolers, principal/GC informed me they got the letter and my name on it). That sort of thing. Very helpful. Thanks in advance!
