National merit corporation did tell me personally that SI will be no higher than 209
How is this number converted to SI. What is 80/20 split
Correction 650/800 split
650 Verbal and 800 Maths.
Since Verbal is counted double, this split produces the lowest SI for 1450.
Someone please clarify. My daughter gave the old SAT According to the national merit corporation this will be converted to the new SAT score. This is done by converter on the college board website she converts to math 730 and writing 720 for total of 1450. What will be her SI
I get an SI of 217 for those scores. She should be fine.
How did we get this number
(Writing/10)*2 + (Math/10)
Blargh, still waiting. Even though the GC assured me sheād let me know as soon as she heard anything. Apparently sheās deafā¦
We āheardā the good news today from school - it was in the principalās weekly e-newsletter. A friend happened to text me a pic from it, otherwise we (daughter included) would have missed it. I am happy they recognized her in the newsletter, but it strikes me as odd that they havenāt said anything to her in personā¦
^^That is crazy. It would have been nice if they told the students first.
My son was finally told today by his GC who gave him his letter. Finally, at long last, official confirmation. Thank goodness for smARTās site.
My son is still waiting to hear from his school as well. He met with his GC last friday, but she said she hadnāt heard anything. A little strange. (The Principal is brand new and came from a Middle School. Maybe he is being cautious of the āDonāt not release the info until XX Date.ā
What to do with someone already in college? Do you think it is worth to proceed with nmf even the college has no money for nmf?
We have not heard anything from the high school. Do you think weāll be notified after graduation?
Sorry if Iām repeating old news but this year the confirming SAT score will be a Selection Index. Multiple parents have confirmed this news and there is a pretty good discussion on a couple of the smART sites.
Iāve posted information on the following CC thread:
Still waiting in TX. Think Dās school subscribes to the we-will-not-release-ANY-information-until-press-release-date philosophy. It is really quite frustrating, as it would be nice to finally receive official notification, and it would be helpful to be able to start the next phase of the qualifying process. Thank you to those of you who have received and shared information, as it is currently the only way some others of us are even aware of anything at this stage. At least the wait will finally be over in a few days!
We are also still waiting in Ohio. It is surprising because our school usually has 2 or 3. Last year there were not any. This year I only know about my son, but have not asked anyone else.
If someone has old sat score is this first supposed to be converted to the new sat for calculating selection index
That is a good question @crazydad. I donāt know if they will convert the āoldā SAT to the ānewā SAT score and then calculate SI or calculate an SI from the āoldā SAT and then come up with a number that will factor in the SIs of old and new.
Seems like calculating an SI from the old SAT should basically just be dividing by 10, since it already double-weighted the reading/writing portion. Oh, and using the multiple choice score for writing instead of the full score that included the essay.
It will be interesting to see what NM decides to do. It would seem calculating an SI should basically just be dividing by 10 but conversion/ non-conversation adds in a component that will result in dramatically different results.
For example, the historical confirming SAT score is 1960. For illustration purposes, Iām going with 1950. The SAT subscores are: 650 Math, 650 Reading and 650 (writing MC subscore). If you simply divide by 10, that is an SI of 195.
Place the āoldā SAT scores of 650 math, 650 reading and 650 writing MC into the SAT converter and the converter comes up with 700 reading/ writing and 670 math. To get the SI of this āconvertedā score, you get 700*2 + 670 = 2070 and a SI of 207.
I have no idea but it will be interesting.
