Whoa! 19 at my D’s school. That’s far above average, which is usually around 10 students.

I came across AL and NJ

@Iowa1962 I’m looking for that as well. I did find a list of Iowa City West and City High kids through Google if that applies …

@Momof2TX Thanks for posting that TX list I was happy to see a boy in my son’s Boy Scout Troop made the cut.

@JBStillFlying I’ve made several requests to no avail.

@candjsdad – saw what I think were your posts on the other forum and I cannot believe the amount of snark from the posters on that site. Sorry!

Do you have confirmation the the Georgetown Patch isn’t going to publish this year? I saw that someone on dcum had contacted them (perhaps it was you) and the individual who had followed up in past years was no longer working there. I may be wrong, but I believe the Washington Post has published the list in the past.

@aptrail Yes, I am all of those people. Persistent, aren’t I? The reporter from the Post said she would check with her editors, and then never got back to me. The woman at the Patch is still working for them, but only covering N. Virginia. The DC guy wouldn’t respond to me. I’ve tried the Washington Times now too, but I haven’t heard back from them. I’ve also contacted someone at DCPS. No response there.

@thinmints I’m not bothered. I’ve noticed that happens there because everyone is completely anonymous (no usernames). It encourages the trolls.

Well that was fun. I didn’t think I typically used language that required bleeping, but apparently here, if you talk about fantastical beings who have been known to dwell under bridges or turn to stone in the sunlight, then you are using inappropriate language!

Thanks for doing all of the legwork to try and get the list. FWIW, I generally try to stay off the other site because of those ā€œfantastical beingsā€ you referenced.

Question. Does anyone know if the National Merit semifinalist to finalist has changed to the past years? I took my S to the doctor yesterday and his doctor was a semifinalist many years ago. I could not ask how many years ago because that is not appropriate to ask a lady. She was very sure however that she didn’t become a finalist. She went to Duke for her undergraduate work though. Any thoughts?

@Tgirlfriend Sorry, I don’t remember. I guess I wrote an essay and the school did the rest. Certainly it wasn’t online in 1982, so that part has changed. I don’t even remember becoming a finalist, but I guess I did, since I got a scholarship from A&M.

The largest high school in CT has 0 (zero) NMSF this year. The HS with the most (13) is less than half the size (one of the wealthiest towns in the state). No surprises there. Sad though.

Here’s a shout-out to Patch.org. While none of our big regional papers have bothered to publish the list(s) (not yet, anyway), Patch has.

@Ynotgo…The doctor was very sure she did not get finalist…just semifinalist. I told my S that surely things have changed for his doctor not to be a finalist just a semifinalist. That put doubt in both our minds. Now we get to worry until February. Ugh

@Tgirlfriend - My guess is that she wasn’t remembering it properly. She probably was a finalist, but not a scholarship winner. Remember, it goes National Merit Semifinalist --> National Merit Finalist --> National Merit Scholar. After all of those years she probably just forgot the middle step. Only half of Finalists make Scholar, and I’d guess that’s mostly a matter of where your dart lands on the board.

15,000 NMFs just like all the other years. No worries unless you have poor grades, disciplinary issues or didn’t submit a confirming score.

@candjsdad we have to form yet another new word: I propose tROLL.

Edit/update: Shoot - that didn’t work!!

Let’s try this again: t-roll
