Anyone know?

No interview for D. However, she applied before Dec 10 and she received a letter from financial aid stating she has Presidential Scholarship if she lists USC as her first choice as well as the $1000 extra if she is not sponsored by a corporate. The reason I think she received the letter is because she applied before Dec 10. I think anybody who applies before Dec 10, receive a letter letting them know whether or not they get any scholarship.

I just called the USC Scholarship office. They stated that NMF’s automatically get the Presidential Scholarship if they have been (1) Accepted to USC. (2) List USC with the National Merit Foundation. The letter for the scholarship should be mailed by April 1. If both of those have been met.

Our hope is to keep S’s undecided status until he knows where he’s been admitted, and where he plans to attend. That’s not gonna happen before April 1, apparently. So greatgirls, did they happen to tell you what to do in that situation?

Good question. D is also listed as undecided and that is just what I was debating. I had asked NM about it and they said some schools require that the student list it on the first Roster that goes out (apparently they send them out every couple of weeks to participating colleges until May) in order for the student to get the scholarship…and some schools do not care if it is on the last one. And that you would have to call the individual schools and ask. I called USC and to be honest the person had no idea what I was talking about :))) So I do not know.

This is just my opinion, but I would think that your kids would have to recv the 1/2 tuition no matter when they send in their notification of the school of choice. USC guarantee’s 1/2 tuition to all NMF who list’s USC as the first choice regardless of when the student does this (as long as it meets the deadline date). You can always fax your decision to NM on the last day. By April 1st you should have recvd most of the decisions either by e-mail or online check. Anyway, just a thought.

My son applied before the Dec. 10 deadline. At that time he was a NM semi-finalist. Did you apply for financial aid and then receive the letter that the NMF scholarship is part of your financial aid package? Acceptance letter is here but no mention of the NMF scholarship yet.

no, he was accepted on 1/26. He recently found out that he was a NMF. nothing has come from USC yet in reference to the 1/2 tuition. No financial aid package either. Have you recvd a financial aid package? I know they give this out because it says so on their website. I contacted NM and they said that if my son lists USC as his first choice by the May 1 deadline then he automatically gets 1/2 tuition through USC.

I hope this helps

mdcissp, DD did not apply for financial aid to any school, not just USC, she received a letter from USC Financial aid office stating she would received NMF scholarship if she designates USC as her first choice.

mdcispp: Was your son accepted to USC?? If so he automatically gets the Presidential if he lists USC as his #1 choice with nm. The letters are mailed out by April 1 from USC. I spoke to the scholarship office today…and that is what they said.

So it sounds like nobody but Columbia’s D has been notified specifically, but that is because she (sort of) listed USC as first choice. And it sounds like greatgirls was told you need to designate a first choice by April 1 if you want to get the offer in your initial financial aid offer. And guitars was told to designate by May 1 (by NMSC). Adding in the experiences of people last year, I’m thinking the May 1 deadline will work for changing from undecided to USC, as long as you don’t mind it not showing up in that first letter on April 1. Does that sound plausible???
