I dont know if many you guys know about this university,
but those who know please tell me how this university is.

I am an international senior student studying in a CBSE(indian) school.

I am planning to do a computer science course.
There they also mention about an Honours programme,
what is the difference between the normal and honours programme, and is it worth doing a multidisciplinary course(somputer science with management).

The site is www.nus.edu

dude you need atleast 90% in CBSE to be shortlisted for the written exam for NUS (atleast thats what they said when they had a seminar in my city)

but this is contrary to whats written in their site which says nothing about a written exam.

but again my question is, is this university good? especially in its computer science department? It is possible for me to get 90% in the CBSE board exam(chances are slim though)

DUDE…
NUS IS ONE OF THE BEST ENGG SCHOOLS IN THE WORLD!!!
you should be honoured to go there.
just look at the world rankings

1 Harvard University
2 University of Cambridge
3 University of Oxford
4 Massachusetts Institute of Technology
4 Yale University
6 Stanford University
7 California Institute of Technology
8 University of California, Berkeley
9 Imperial College London
10 Princeton University
11 University of Chicago
12 Columbia University
13 Duke University
14 Beijing University
15 Cornell University
16 Australian National University
17 London School of Economics and Political Science
18 Ecole Normale Supérieure
19 National University of Singapore
19 University of Tokyo

and yes, there is definitely a written exam.
oh and btw, the NUS only looks at your class 10 CBSE unless you are applying as a transfer/passed-out student

I don’t know about the computer science department, but overall NUS is an excellent university with a good global reputation. (If you are interested in rankings check out the THES rankings, NUS is ranked quite high). My friends studying there all seem to have a good impression of the uni (though they do tell me it’s very demanding).

NUS doesn’t conducts entrance exams. NTU conducts and only looks at your X marks for shortlisting.
From india you’ll need 95(±1)to get into NUS.

Well i got a 93% in 10th boards but in 12th so far the percentage has been bad(close to 80), as my school generally gives low marks…Although i expect a close to 95 in boards.
Do u think i can qualify for NTU written test?? Also chances at NUS??

dude…u have no idea how the board exams are corrected…but i wont stop u from trying to score that high…i agree that it is really tough to get above 85% in CBSE, but however good u may be 95% in the boards is really a tough ask…i dont think there is a written exam for NUS - they ask for the pre-board exam marks and then when u get the board exam marks they review your application based on those marks…if you score low in anyone then they review the other marks just to make sure that u are a good student coz people sometimes screw up the board exam because they know that board exam correction is sometimes not that good. if you are rejected by NUS then u cant write any exam.

Only NTU has an admission exam. - which is required only if you score low in your school exams…if you can score above 90% then u have a good chance in both universities but it all depends on the application pool of the year.

NOTE : THE ABOVE RANKINGS ARE FOR OVERALL RANKINGS NOT FOR ENGINEERING - FOR TECHNOLOGY NUS IS 8th AND NTU IS 26th.

NUS or NTU do not require your class 12 board marks if you are currently in school.
By the time they want it, there admission decisions are already mailed.

Indian Standard 12 (Central and state boards)

well the basic 90% gets you into the lower cadre courses, and you need atleast 95% to be sure to get into engg(unless all of a sudden those hundreds of 93%+ stop applying…hehe also)

Just bcoz u can’t score 95+ that doesn’t means that it’s impossible, there are hundreds of ppl who got 95+ in boards and cleared JEE.

If you have above 90% in Xth then probably you would be shortlisted for NTU exam, NUS admits only on the basis of official Grade XII%(SAT II may help).

But for a person like me i don’t think it is so easy,

You tell me, right now im getting 80% in my school examinations, so do u think i can get about 93-95% in the boards.

I did get 91% in 10th board though.
But i haven’t written any SATIIs(too late now).

So what do u think are my chances for entering into NUS and NTU,
also for the NTU entrance exam, do i have to go all the way to Singapore to write it?

oh no they are held in INDIA, there are thausands writing them…

in delhi they are probable held at TAJ Palace( a wild guess… i saw a few singaporeans conducting a test while i was attending a fair there …(rather more uncertain i don’t know if they were japanese, chinese or may be North east Indians… hell))

NTU will shortlist you. Keep in mind that the entrance exam isn’t easy! I know ppl who got into BITS and failed to clear NTU’s exam. The maths is the most difficult subject, it’s based on A level Further maths with which most of the Indians are unfamiliar. The exam is around 25 april so you’ll have a month to prepare for it, just go through some past papers and you would be ok.
Good luck:)
